Anyone live near a windfarm?

Funny how you call people who don't want cancer "greenies". I'm all for natural gas plants, modern nuclear, hydro, wind, and solar, etc. I think coal needs to die. Why should my family get cancer for living next to a power plant that benefits mainly city folks living 50 miles away?

Trash incinerators are also a major problem, but I don't think anyone has a great solution for dealing with trash, whether it gets burned for electricity or shoved in the ground.

Dude, pump the brakes, ok?
I never called “people who don’t want cancer greenies”.

Crap, People get cancer voluntarily. They smoke, drink excessively, or eat 4 pounds of bacon a week. Smoking is the main cause of lung cancer and more people die from lung cancer than almost every other type of cancer. Sadly, its a sel-forced error that costs them their life!

Maybe work on that before you close fossil fuel plants and shove your windmills & solar panels agenda up our asses???

I do agree that coal should probably be phased out in favor of natural gas, but would always be open to new advancements in clean coal technology.

Nukes is by far the best answer

Since you guys are all about rescuing the great unwashed from cancer from power plants, whats your take on the poor kids working in mines in Africa extracting rare earth metals that cause all kinds of cancers & diseases to build your solar panels, and batteries?
There are no rare earth elements in solar panels, mostly silicon. And Lead acid and LiFePO4 do not contain them either. Try again.

Did you read the word Batteries, or do you need another cup of coffee??? You’re telling me batteries don’t contain elements mined in Africa by children and other forms of unethical labor?
“Try again” my ass….

All or almost all coal power plants have scrubbers on them. They also burn low sulfur coal or a blend of high and low sulfur coal. I’m not saying the smokestack is clean but much better then it used to be.
If people look a little closer, they'd see that some of the shut down plants were dual fuel. So why were they closed instead of switched?

Natural gas causes cow farts that are really bad for you. Nukes have a really bad waste stream (~600 years) and isn't safe enough for everyone to have their own little pile.

Here is the problem with a lot of what goes on in our world today. There is so much misinformation, ignorance to the facts and hypocrisy that our society will never be fixed in my opinion. Here is an excellent example. First of all lithium is not a rare earth element, get your facts straight. And yes the extraction of any metal ore is going to have MANY drawbacks, including possibly child labor. There are also many other ways lithium is mined and extracted that does not include child labor. The other methods have drawbacks too, more than likely very harmful to the local environment, but you don't care about stuff like that. So to cherry pick that one possible scenario to prove why you are right and others are wrong is silly and and hypocritical. You have at least 5 things in your life that are powered by lithium batteries, likely many more. Does your wife have a diamond ring or gold jewelry? Very possible child labor was involved there as well. That is all I have to say about that.
