I will admit this is me. I R a Ingineeer 4 a day. I have more soot in my lungs than on my face.

History: My Dad worked on the NY Central. His Dad was an engineer on the NY Central and killed when his locomotive suffered a boiler explosion.

This the "famous" Pere Marquette 1225. (converted to oil burner). Ran a trip from Durand to Owosso? as I recall in 1999. Never seen so many grown men shake at the fury of the steam drivers bouncing at road speed. They still cook her out when they can affort the insurance and track rental.

Yes, great pics. We've ridden the Durango to Silverton train a couple of times, and the train from Rusk to ********* (in Texas). The pic in my profile is of the train from Durango with my wife and I standing in front.

There's also the trains in Ely, Nevada. They will take excursions, or you can get1-day or 2-day classes, and learn how to drive them. Then, they take you out on the track and let you "Engineer". Last I looked was something like $500

My Grandfather was an engineer for C&O railroad going from steam to diesel in the 50's, he retired in the 70's after more then 40 years of service. I wouldn't be surprised if he drove the 1225 because he all ways talked about the old Pere Marquette lines and did a lot of lay-overs in Chicago.
