I get the joy of having crohns. Been on Stelara for 10 years....insurance company says it's too much, you have to use this Steqeyma. I take an injection once a month.
Back story, I use a high deductible on my health insurance. Stelera pays the copay. I time my injections so I'm getting them as close as possible to the first business day in January. In fact, a bit of a "funny" (in my small mind anyway) Number of years ago, I went to pharmacy to get something. It was either last week of January or first week of February. Gal gathers it.... looks at her register and says "Ok....your copay is.... " and stopped cold. The look on her face was priceless. She was befuddled as to why I had no copay. I explained what I did. She said in her years of working at a pharmacy, she had never seen someone hit their copay limit so early in the year. Well...it's easy when your prescription is something like $20,000, they pay the copay and you orchestrate it so you get it done prior to January 5-7.
I digress.... so I'm taking this new stuff, Steqeyma. I asked the pharmacy how much does this cost. (via texts) He totally MISSED (ignored?) my question. I've resent it repeating the question very directly. He's either going to have to answer it, tell me he can't tell me or totally ignore the question. We'll see.
All I'm trying to do is figure out....if they pay my copay, what's the cost of the dose? If it's say, $5,000, then it's going to cost me $2,000 in January. If it's OVER $7,000, (and they pay the copay) then my process continues.
So all I'm trying to do really, is figure out if I'm going to have to cough up some cash in January and maybe Feb.... but need to know the cost (retail) of the drug.
Anyone reading this have any clue? I've been searching the internet. Saw that their "WAC" (Wholesale Acquisition Cost) is stated at something like $300. Their cost (if that were to be accurate) doesn't help me....I need the retail!
This is frustrating. Gotta love how this works in this country of ours.
