I saw a couple farm trax tractors today. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about them. Is it a jinma? I am pretty sure it is chinese. A guy down the road is trying to sell them. Thanks

Boy.. that's hard to place.

I looked a couple pics over.. and see lotsa stuff that looks jinma.. or chinese in general.. but then lotsa stuff that doesn't.

Tranny looks more jap.. front spindles don't look like jinma I've seen.. stance of tractor and rops/shade structure/fiberglass do look chineese. lift area looks chineese. though I havn't seen a drawbar like that..

here's a link to one on ebay..

post back if you get any answers.. I'm interested now

Foton? I'm skeptical. Your link leads to http://www.tractorchina.com/ft180-284.htm, which only makes reference to two cylinder 20hp manual steering models with 8.3x24 rears.

Under the new rounded edges, all the visual clues in Chris's link still shout Jinma.

That one that is on E-bay is for sure a Foton. TractorChina just doesn't show all models.

There are parts that are shared between some chinese tractor factories. This tractor appears to have the rear axle, hyd/3pt lift, possibly transmission, and few other parts from the Jinma 200 series line.

There are many more differences in this tractor than the current Jinma series. Hood, fenders, deck, clutch & brake peddles, front weights, side steering, rops, wheel weights, muffler, controls, hyd lines, etc, that I don't believe it is a Jinma. Probably could spot more differences, if had more detailed photos.

Large dealers can work with the factory to get custom hoods done, but usually they are just modifications to currently designed hoods. I would say it is very unlikely that they would have made this many changes for any dealer/importer. Some things like the hap hazard running of hyd lines, are certainly not an improvement over the current Jinma 200 series.

More than that John. All those points you mentioned (side steering, deck, clutch & brake peddles, front weights, side steering, rops, wheel weights, muffler, controls, hyd lines) are similar if not identical to the pre-2002 Jinma mods. I recognize all those parts from my first Jinma. Same dash and gauges, same switches, even looks to be the same steering wheel. This FarmTrax also has the same foot throttle and TPH lift lever. I can't speak for the front axle, because all mine had front differential axles. But I can say those weights (both front and rear) look identical. Other familiar items include ROPS, canopy brackets, seat, intake manifold, fuel delivery, lower radiator hose,

I will admit the hydraulic steering cylinder is a bit smaller in diameter, but that could be because the 4wd version needs more push/pull.

Differences are few; I don't recognize the muffler, the hand throttle is different, there are no lower lift arm turnbuckles, and there's a hydraulic remote that didn't come on any of my Jinmas. Other than that, I still see an old Jinma in a new dress.

But who knows, maybe there's been a merger - maybe Futian and Jinma are sharing an old parts bin. Maybe Futian/Foton bought up an old warehouse of Jinma parts. I know it's all speculation, but there's a WHOLE lotta Jinma on that FarmTrax

Greg,

OK, I'd think I'd bet a case of good beer, that its not a Jinma /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I owned an '01 Jinma 254, and own a '02 Jinma 284, which is prior to LE. Also I am very familiar with '00, since that was the year I started checking them out. Sat on a Nortrac's and Iron Horse Jinma's that year.

ROPS: No way is this a current Jinma or '00 - '03. Look at the picture with the 3pt, and view enlarged. Look at ROPS to axle mounting. This rops looks to be held on with just a "U" bolt on each side. Looks very weak in this area. Jinma has substationaly more metal in this area, 4 bolts tieing into fender with large bolts into the lower plate the 3pt sway chains attach. Pivit point is significantly different than Jinma.

The canopy does look like the older Jinma style, but the mounting plates are not triangular.

My '01 had side steering. This has different cyl, different mount to tractor, and different mount to front axle. Also hyd fitting are turned out causing large loops in hyd lines, ready to catch some branches. So, completely different than Jinma.

My '01 had the diamond plate style decking, but again this is different in config and mounting. The foot throttle doesn't look like it goes through deck, like Jinma.

Electrical items won't surprise me if the same, also engine maybe Y385 as well. I have seen same engine in DongFeng 254.

Looking at his other tractor auctions, they look more like Foton pictures I've seen, Model (FT300) even says "not jinma" in title.
