Anyone have any thoughts on attending a High School reunion

It is sad that so many people had a horrible time in high school. I did not have a great time but I had fun running cross country. I had a gang of friends. Most of us were not the football/basketball jocks but golf, runners or non-athletes who worked after school. The 25th I attended with my wife had me seeing kids I went to school and church with, kids from orchestra or math classes. The druggy jocks were not there. Some of the student athletes were. Our class was less than a 100 so I guess it might have been less possible to be anonymous. I do not recall at all any discussion of money/career. It could be that if it was brought up it did not matter to me. I did not have anything to brag about career wise anyway. If we were to go up for another it would be an excuse to see my classmate the eye doctor for a fresh prescription and to see family that still lives up that way.

My Mom likes going to her reunions. I can't recall my Dad having anything to say about reunions but he was not the butterfly my Mom is. Not that my Mom is really a butterfly.

Haven't gone to any yet, I'd rather just hang out at a bon-fire in the back yard drinkin' beer and talking about the old days with the few friends I still talk to anyway.

^ditto

If you don't keep in touch & hang out every now & then they are just acquaintances which are one step away from total strangers. True friends, the one's you still pick up the phone and call then go out of your way to see are the important one's. Besides most of us are totally different people then we were in HS, so I my reaction would be the same if someone asked if I was going to go to a Star Wars convention.

I have never attended a class reunion, and don't believe I'd begin now!

Besides, most of them will be OLD, and since I am not, why make them feel badly?

When I saw this thread yesterday the first thing that popped in my head was a quip about being old.:laughing::laughing: I think you said it perfectly. :D:D:D I am still 29 by the way... ;)

I haven't bothered. We had a class of almost 900, I didn't know everybody even then. Most of us moved out of the area to find jobs, or school. I live about 60 miles away, and haven't seen anybody for years. I did go to a 5 year reunion, I was underwhelmed. I don't think reunions are very popular these days. The times have changed, and folks just don't have as much in common anymore.

I went to my 5 and 10 year. Missed the 20 year, but plan on going to the 25th if we have one.

My brothers and I all went to same high school. Brother 2 years older's class has a reunion every year and it is well attended. My class didn't even have a 40 yr reunion, lack of interest. Jase Robertson said it best, something like,"if they were good enough friends,I would have seen or talked to them anyway in the last 30 yrs,and if I haven't,why would I want to now?"

My wife and I both attended the same small county school for all twelve years. We attended our fortieth reunion together last year. There were only 36 in our Senior class and we were the largest class to graduate from our school. I have fond memories of my school years, more so than my wife does. We were classmates and friends, dated others, but didn't start dating each other until the last part of our senior year.

All the boys were friendly with each other. There were groups of us that ran in slightly seperate circles but sometimes there would be all sixteen of the boys in trouble together. There were no druggies or serious troublemakers in the group. We loosely keep up with each other even today.

For the girls it was different. There were a few "Queen Bees" that thought they were higher than the others. It is funny to see them now, divorced a couple times, large women, trying to suck up to my wife and another girl in our class who were the only two to attend college and become professionals. My wife is also comfortably retired at fifty six while most of the Queen Bees work in their minumum wage jobs knowing they will never actually be able to retire.

My wife was the best looking woman at the reunion and several of the guys commented that she had aged less than any of the other women. She probably had on less than half the makeup that some of the others wore. Has never used it much while some of the other females had it sprayed on.

The reunion was what it was suppossed to be, a group of people catching up with each other's lives and renewing old friendships. Sadly we had lost two members since the thirtieth reunion.

So yes I will attend all the reunions in the future.

I guess I have somewhat of a nostalgic feeling towards that time of my life. I regret not participating in HS and making the bonds and connections that I have seen others make. HS didn't interest me at the time, I never even bothered getting yearbooks. Heck I barely attended, I thought I had better things to do, but though very little effort of my own I ended up with a diploma after 5 years. I hardly communicate with who I considered the most important people in my life at that time. I guess there is a part of me that wants people to see who I've become, and I want to see what they have become. It seems like I'm an exception here. I suppose it does help only living 25 miles from where I grew up too.
