Hey y'all,

Anyone purchased one of these basic stump grinders from MechMaxx?

They look a LOT like the woodland mills WG24 (even use the same number, 24 in the product name) but are a whopping $700 cheaper when you factor in delivery. This is kind of the price difference I need mentally to help justifying a purchase. I onyl have a handful of stumps to get rid of (for now) but would be nice to help the neighbors here or there also.

There are a ton of positive reviews on the mechmaxx site, but they could easily be curating out anything negative, hard to judge. Hence I am asking everyone here.

Guess I might have to try it. The mechmaxx site looks legit enough, they have warehouse addresses and real phone numbers to call.

Not sure the wifey would appreciate a $1900 hit in the checking account for a tool I'll only use a couple times.... haha.

You can rent a tracked stump grinder for about $300 a day here. $1900 would be about 6 days of stump grinding.

Yeah, good point. I don't even have one full day of grinding to do at the moment. But I'm typically willing to pay a premium to avoid the hassle of rental, scheduling a tight window for the work, etc. Owning such a tool, I could pick away here and there at stumps without any pre-planning at all, which is worth a lot to me. Potentially.

I would venture to guess the only difference behind the actual machine themselves (Mechmaxx and Woodland Mills) is the paint color. They look to roll offf the same Chinese plant.

Woodland Mills has developed a decent reputation working with people, so that is worth a bit in my book. Maybe not $700 though.

Sorry that this is my first post. With that said - If any of you are thinking about buying from MechMaxx I would suggest that you steer clear. They don't manufacturer any of their own products and they have no US based Offices or Parts Warehouses. Getting anything from this company parts wise after a purchase will be like pulling teeth. I purchased three products from them after watching many videos and reading comments on Social Media. It seems that my experience is different than others but I can tell you that MechMaxx will do everything in their power to coverup anything negative. I found the company that produces the equipment that they are selling - google Austter. You can actually purchase products directly from them at a fraction of the premium MechMaxx offers them at. And they seem to have a way better customer service program in place than MechMaxx. MechMaxx only communicates via text or email as I dont think that anyone speaks English - hard to deal with American's wouldn't you agree?

After much back and forth with them, I decided to challenge the charges through PayPal and PayPal decided that my grievances were correct, refunding me all of the money spent. MechMaxx still hasn't made arrangements with me to pick up the equipment months after all of these issues occurred. They are based in China and don't do business the way we would expect anyone too. They put on a good show by showing US based locations but those are simply warehouses that accept containers of products to be shipped out.

Don't say I didn't warn you. Steer Clear! You'll thank me later.

So, what was the problem with the items you purchased that makes you want to return them?

Also curious to hear what problems you had. But thank you for your feedback. I was fully aware that they are a chinese equipment importer who would not likely have good customer service in the event of a warranty need. It's a gamble. Buy some extra grinding teeth up front, and hope for the best.

Thanks for the tip but Austter does not have any 3-pt hitch equipment that I can find on their products list/page.

What problems didn't I have? Everything they shipped to me was either damaged in shipping or missing parts. Dead Battery on a wheelbarrow, missing parts on a wood chipper, damaged welds on a trenching unit. All of the items came with very limited instructions and when I messaged them for replacement parts, they put me in touch with influencers that spoke English or "Engineers" from their "Factory" in China - major language Barriers. Search Alibaba for the unit you are looking for. You will most likely find it there.
