No, but I did find some lint in my belly button /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

They've found mastadon bones in several marl pits around South Bend. Ever see the molars on those things? Huge.

Bob,
They're fairly "Common" in New York State. A research group (Palentological Research Institute) in Ithaca NY has one from Hyde Park, one from Northern Chemung County (with some spare bones, apparently from another Mastodon), and they're excavating another somewhere between Rochester and Buffalo.

An interesting note on Chemung County. The Native Americans apparently found some Mastodon tusks, and named the area "Chemung" which is supposed to mean "Land of the Big Horn".

I was out working on the snow trac and came in for lunch and glanced at the newspaper. Not too far from where I live an excavator was doing a pond project and apparently dug up bones from several mastadons! The Indiana State Museum came out to the site and figured out they are well over 10,000 years old.

Mastodons roam Hebron, Indiana

I'm pretty bummed out, the only thing I even find on my land are old strands of barb wire, and I usually find them with my finish mower blades /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Bob, I have a molar tooth out of one that a high school buddy gave me. He worked for Gifford/Hill sand and gravel company, and they were digging in the Trinity river bottoms close (couple miles) to where we lived. He knew I liked that kind of stuff, so he gave it to me. The rest of the bottom jaw and skull is in a museum in Dallas in Fair Park. They were pretty common in this area, and I think after the first findings and publicity died down, they just kept digging without reporting any other finds. My wife used it for a door stop for years after we married. She is a school teacher, and carried it to school one year, and another of her teacher friends chewed her out for using it in such a "demeaning" way, so now it sits on a shelf.

My property sits on what used to be a typical Pacific Northwest logging camp.

I've dug up all sorts of interesting stuff. Mostly in the form of pottery and bottles. What I wouldn't give to find a well preserved "misery whip". But, I think most of those have long rotted away.

No bones, but I did dig up an old Heinz (catsup/ketchup?) bottle with the dozer while enlarging our pond. An old bottle is not unique but this bottle has the imperfections in the glass, a different shape and a glass stopper with 57 embossed on it. I have never seen a condiment bottle with a glass stopper before. It somehow survived the dozer, intact, with the stopper and is now in the wifes display cabinet.
Have you done any research on this bottle? Might contact Heinz and see what they know about it (when it was used/made, etc). Lots of company's have 800 #'s on their labels, should give them a call.

I haven't found any mastadon bones yet, but if ya ask my ole woman she might tell ya there is at least ONE old dinasour roaming about my property pretty regular :D
I have found 30+ indian artifacts back where I grew up, lots of arrow heads, one or two spear heads and a few stone axes...

only thing I have found on my place is trash dumps :( probably 6 or 7 of those. I know the one has BLATZ beer bottles numbering in the 1000's easy... :rollin: a lot of old Heinze 57 & other type bottles too... so far I ahven't tried to do much with that area since I have rubber tires on tractor. one other area is being burried since it is in a wash...
