I recenty restored an old 4 blade disc tiller. Before and after pictures are attached. This implement dates back to the 1950's.

I planted a cover crop of oats for my garden plot in the fall. I plan to lime and turn the oats under with the disc tiller in late December' then followup breaking the cods with a tandem disc harrow.

Is anyone in familiar with the this implement of the past?

Nice restoration.

Looks like a disc plow to me. You can see more of this kind of stuff on these websites

Nice work on the "remodel job". When I was growin' up - folk's called those disc plows - "One-ways".

Is that a JD 990 on the front end of your disc plow?

And welcome to TBN! :D

Disc plow fer sure. We don't have them here. They don't work in our soil type.

In the area I grew up in they were widely used. We called them "Tillers"

They usually ranged from about six feet to twelve feet. :D:D

Disc plow it is. Fifty or so years ago they were common in this area. Better in light rocky soil than regular bottom turning plow.

Yes AKfish, my tractor is a JD 990 4whd with wide tires. I have really enjoyed this tractor. It works well for plowing, discing, loading, skidding, etc. The tractor is limited to wide single row planting and cultivating due to the wide tires and set wheel width.

In my part of the world they were called disk tiller as you did. We had two with major differences. One was about 5 blades and was more suited for normal field use and then a 2 blade one that was built like a fort or better with difference size blades. That one would cut small trees and roots like nothing. Was slow work and could leave a sharp tree trunk that meant no travel against the flow.

If you look today you will find large super heavy duty disk that are built similar for such as work as cut over forest. You should have no problem cutting in the crop.

Flusher, enjoyed the video.

Thanks for the input Kthompson. The disc tiller/plow works great after making one pass on the oat patch fallow ground. I cleared a strip of new ground next to the oat patch that contained privet, vines and small popcorn trees. I also have a two blade dearborne disc plow that I plan to break the new ground with.
