I have an opportunity to bid cutting right of ways for Colonial Pipeline company. They have about 300-500' wide cut for miles through property very close to me that goes for miles.

Anyone a right of way cutting contractor? Ground is very rough. Typical 4-6' weeds and lots of "unknown" stumps, junk, etc.

Looking for the right 10-12' mower, too.

You could post in Related Equipment : Land Clearing maybe and get more response?
Dave.

Here's a 10-footer (Bush Hog 3210) for $950

Bush Hog 3210 10FT ROTARY CUTTER Rotary Cutters, Flail mowers, Shredders - John Deere MachineFinder

Fixing this one up will get you up close and personal with your mower so you'll be able to fix it blindfolded in the field when it gets busted up from trying to mow all the "unknown" crap you're going to encounter.

Whoa... There's some interesting reading on the other forums here on TBN regarding the work that you're considering!

Hard duty! **** on equipment!

That's why those bids keep comin' open - again, and again..

Once the contractor figures out the maintainence, repair, replacement and fill-in (rental) for down equipment; he likely lets the contract go in the final year or ups the bid to where he can make it pay; and loses it to the next "hungry young lion"!

Best of luck.

The 5 acre field I used to mow is a powerline right-of-way. I only got into it because Pepco didn't do their maintenance.
That first mow was a SOB! Brush was at least as tall as the cowl of the 670 and some as tall as the ROPS.
Slow going...doesn't get much slower then a 670 in 1st gear, low range. So, plan on going slow!!!
After that first mowing, it wasn't so bad. Still pretty slow due to the rough, uneven ground
I still 'hog my part of the right of way (an acre, more or less). The farmer who owns the center of the right of way (2.5 aces or so) runs his big cutter a few times a year.

Anyway, this is tough, slow work. Most companies just want to spray to kill the trees. I let them do that once....NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!! Kills the trees, but they're left standing. I had to clear them out myself.

Thanks for the sales lead and I agree with you about fixing, however, I need a batwing to pull down the road. 10' is too wide.

I'd look for some sort of hydraulic drive flail mower mounted on a timberjack. Right of Ways are hard going even when the goings good.
