Anybody use their BCS PTO to power other hydraulics?

Hi folks, after looking at wood splitters as per this thread: BCS branded wood splitter? I have been wondering if anyone has set up their tractor to run a splitter or other implement that would be freestanding but utilize the PTO via an adaptation to link to the hydraulic pump.

Since the pump on a splitter takes constant input from the shaft and all the management is in the valves it seems as though the right adapter or series of them, if held rigid, could spin the pump.

Any threads talking about this? A brief search didn’t bring anything up.

My chipper uses the PTO for hydraulics and the flywheel for the chipper part. The hydraulic pump is driven by a pully. It doesn't need a lot to drive the infeed sprocket. There's plenty of PTO pumps on the market. Determine how much flow you need and get one. They are not generally on cheap side.

Thanks for the above. I see Earthtools has an adapter to convert from the 3 flange BCS to 1 & 3/8” PTO.

I know there are PTO driven 3-point hitch wood splitters -American CLS sells one for example- but it’s rated for 30+ hp at the PTO. So I’m guessing that my 749 wouldn’t spin the pump on something like that.

On the other hand I see most standalone splitters have gas engines in the 6-8hp range, so it seems like I should have plenty of power to run many units. (I have been thinking of getting a used splitter and changing the power source as opposed to building my own)
