For the record, I didn’t even know they would be legal in the USA

Nevada only as far as I'm aware.

Flew into Vegas many times to get to Utah, and the only time I spent a whole day there was with my girlfriend (wife now) and father. Mom had passed, but they'd (parents) go to Vegas to catch shows and spend $100 between them on the slots, so he wanted to spend a day/night there with us, so we planned it per our departing flight.

I really don't drink other than an occasional white wine out for dinner, but given gambling, prostitution and booze, I guess there's something to be said for just drinking at home LOL

I very rarely gamble, but I’ve dabbled now and then online just out of curiosity. Once I messed around with a $10 no deposit bonus and ended up turning it into $80 playing a random slot game. Cashed out as soon as the system let me, and haven’t touched it since. I know that kind of run is pure luck, and it doesn't happen often.

I worked for MGM Mirage in Las Vegas on Project City Center. I don’t gamble because I know that most people can’t win. The job entailed paying thousands to millions of dollars to pay for the construction.

Lessons Learned:

1. The corporations in Vegas usually make $millions every day from gamblers
2. Pay is lousy in Vegas unless you are an executive
3. I disliked Vegas and now dislike it even more and will never return

My late wife was ignorant and somewhat of a gambling addict. I demonstrated the statistics of a slot machine. It is a computer designed to play you. A loose machine will allow you to win 45 or so times out of 100. It will take your money at least 55 times out of 100. The programming is designed to keep you there and steadily drain your cash.

I showed that but with her addiction to the game she wasted significant money there. It ended when we left the state. I was very close to leaving her.

Working around that business, there are thousands of people losing cash on slots and video poker in casinos, convenience stores, and any business there with a slot machine or video poker machine. You won’t beat the computer.

When dad was a special Nevada Deputy at Stateline he said he saw no end to the misery of gamblers often arriving by bus and why dad never gambled…

The managers knew who gambled and would comp a bus ticket to get your broke but home… at least then.

I learned there was some truth to headliners gambling with house money just part of the show as winnings or losses belonged to the house.

MANY years ago we hauled horses into Laughlin NV for a big roping. Accomodations were in the casinos. At 5AM I'm going out to feed and having to walk through the slot machines I notice nobody there except the security guard and the cashier... so I asked for $20 in quarters and proceeded to walk down the isle and put 2 quarters in each machine, pull the handle, and move on as quickly as I could, horses were waiting... behind me I heard 1 then 2 then 3 then 4 machines pay out. I went back and scooped all my winnings into my hat. I gave the security guard a nod back and poured my haul on the cashiers counter. She exchanged them for $180 and I thought so far so good. So I didn't try that again.

I hit the lottery 3 times in 2024 on quick picks... total winnings were like 15 bucks lol.

I did hit 1000 dollar scratch ticket this year. Don’t play those very often at all. Hit it right before I brought the T25 in for its first 50 hour service and had the tires filled. So that was good timing.
