Anybody have one of those Troybuilt "mini tillers"?

It's a model TB144.It has a 4cycle engine.I can't even see who made the engine anywhere.I just want it to weed the garden,like a power hoe.It will probably hold up alright for that.I don't know,my wife bought it for me cause she saw me lookin at one.God love her. I'm a big Stihl fan though,and I'm tempted to tske it back and buy a Stihl.

I don't know about the TroyBilt but I bought a Honda mini tiller from Home Depot 2 years ago. Very quiet and powerful, $300. I would buy another.

I haven't seen any Hondas.There was a Bolens made by MTD.I dont know who makes troy built.

My wife wanted one for christmas, looked at the Honda at Home Depot and it had a sign on it for $389.00. A tad bit more than what I wanted to spend when there were others there for $189.00. I am thinking of getting her the Mantis brand which is up there in price also. Ace Hardware did have them advertised for a lot less I just can't find an Ace Hardware store that had one on hand.

Stihl I have not seen anyplace would look at one if there was one on the shelf someplace to put my hands on.

Murph,I had to go to a Stihl dealer to see one.They aren't cheap either. I've had so much good luck with Stihl products in the past that I may be willing to spend the extra money for one though.

I don't have a troy built mini tiller, but I have a troy built weed wacker/brush cutter. I wouldn't buy it again, its sort of cumbersome to use, too heavy for long use, the drive shaft has a tendency to torque up, and the engine does not want to stay started half the time.

My SIL has a Mantis brand tiller that I have used a few times. Its an older one but it still works/runs great. I used it earlier this year to dig a hole for one of those plastic pond basins. The tiller is easy to use because it is so lightweight but has plenty of power. The Mantis even has a lifetime warranty on the tiller tines, break a tine, and they will send you a new one free.

Murph, I didn't know they had gone up in price. I bought a 5-1/2 hp TroyBilt a year or two before the Honda, the Honda is "hands down" a better machine. It only holds 2 oz of oil and has never used any since new. I had an IDC mini tiller for about 10 years and wore it out, I think it was about $70 new back then. The Honda is far better than it also. The Honda is great to use down the rows of growing veggies, you can till right up next to the plants. They run at a very high rpm but doesn't have the "bounce" to it that the IDC had. I've never ran a Mantis so I can't comment on them.
