Not meaning to hijack this thread, but since it has evolved quite a bit since its origin I am hoping it is okay to post a related Groundsmaster question. I am the original owner of a Groundsmaster 52 which I purchased back in 1982. Other than the two occasions when the carburetor Welch plug fell out, causing catastrophic engine damage, everything else is original and working well. I still consider it my daily driver for a three acre lawn. After all these years though, my back is not what it used to be, meaning that the original seat does not provide the kind of protection against jolts that my aging back now requires. So, when shopping around for a suspension seat to replace the original white non-suspension seat, i find that seat replacements available now use a universal bolt pattern for mounting. Unfortunately, this new universal bolt pattern is not anywhere close to the original. I can make an adapter plate, but these new suspension seats are also much deeper (front to back) than the original seats. Maybe they will squeeze into the space available on the GM 52, but I am concerned they may be so deep that once mounted, the rear hood covering the engine will not be able to be lifted open anymore. I am looking at the Milsco V5300 suspension seat, but due to the issues just mentioned, I am hesitant to plunk down over $350 for it, only to find out it may not fit. If there are any other GM 52 owners here who have switched out their seats for a new suspension seat, I would sure be interested in hearing what seat you settled on and how well it fits without any problems. Anybody have any wisdom to share on this?
