Any thoughts on this one?

We purchased just under three acres at a Lake near our house. The attached is
a photo of approximately a half acre of twenty plus years of grass growing
then composting on top of itself. If you walk on it it seems to feel like a sponge. We have purchased Massey 2610TLB, 48" box blade, 72" landscape rake, 60" rear blade, and a 60" rear finish mower. Believe it or not, there is beach under that mess. I would like to get rid of the top layer with the attachments we have purchased. Any input is, as always, appreciated.

Be extreemly carful of setbacks for enviromental reasons. remember the government has nothing better to do than watch the forshore areas. one thing that would work would be a flail mower. using this you would only be doing maintanance and not seen as damaging the forshore. nice beach:thumbsup:

Thanks for the reply. We are the last ones to do anything near the beach.
One of our neighbors have their property listed at $2.1 million. All of the
beach properties are pristine to say the least. I know where you are coming
from with foreshore concerns, it is always in the back of my mind when
I'm thinking of the next step in the dream. Attached is a photo from
our Labour Day Weekend at Kootenay Lake. I would like to quietly
turn grass/mulch into a bit of BC beach. As for the flail mower, I really
don't want to purchase one for a half acre of mess. We just dumped
a pile into implements for our tractor and once this stuff is cleaned up
I feel confident that a finish mower will work well.

Not sure, but a cigarette dropped might start a small grass fire. Just kidding. Different soil than what i'm working with, but bushhog or mow and open up ground to the sun would help a lot. Might be able to rent a walkbehind bush hog? Do the changes in small steps, neighbors/bureaucrats will notice it less.

Borrow a disk and cut a fire break around the area you want to clean up. Get burn permit and torch it. I had a similar situation here with a bunch of old bales as well. I've now completed burning and it looks really great. The new grass is now about 2 inches high coming up and although I was going to sow rye grass I'm going to leave it until fall.
Properly done fire will work a lot harder for you and make a better job. Plus side is that it will kill all the weeds as well.
