Any Suggestions on a 80-95 hp Tractor?

I'm thinking about buying a used utility tractor (2wd), that could pull a 4 bottom plow. Looking at anything in the mid 80's to low 1990's. Could care less about color or brand, just so it has a reputation for reliability and low maintenance. I've looked at the International 1086's and 1066's but they are a bit bigger than what I need.

I have a 4x18 on land JD 3600 plow. Pull it with a 55hp pto Zetor MFWD. Managed to knock a moldboard loose last Saturday. Could probably go with a larger plow or smaller Zetor to prevent damage. Dirt cheap, simple & tuff as an anvil.

I really like the CaseIH Maxxum, like the model 5130 or 5230. These tractors are available with a cab or open-station, 2WD or 4WD, with a handy shuttle-shift. The CDC engine (Cummins, really) is excellent in power and efficiency. The Maxxums are popular chore tractors in this area. A co-worker of mine owns one and really likes it.

Or how about a Deere 2950, 2955, or 3155? Perhaps a Ford 7710, but they are hard-to-find.

Where are you in PA? For me, the presence of a good dealer will determine my tractor color. In my area of PA, I'd run red. We have an unsurpassed CaseIH dealer: Hoober, Inc. They have superior service and parts support to others in my area.

I am in the central part of Pa., near a small town called Mifflintown. We are only two miles from a MF and JD dealer but am hoping to buy private, maybe something in the Lancaster Farming magazine. We have a Hoober in McAlisterville, which is only about six miles from us.

Afternoon Oleozz,
I see a JD 4030 listed in Wengers, Myerstown,Pa for $8750 ! Its in the right HP range. Although I always thought they were a bit high !

Oleozz, what about an older Deere 4020? The value of those older tractors will do nothing but go up. Therefore, a 4020 might not be a cheap buy but a wise buy. There are probably loads of those tractors in your area...but maybe none for sale.

Try searching Used Tractors at TractorHouse.com: John Deere Tractors, used farm tractors and farm equipment, Case IH, New Holland, Agco, Caterpillar. or New & Used farm equipment, tractors, combines, and other used and new machinery by Fastline Publications for specific used tractors in your area. Both online listings will have ads from both dealers and private sale. Nothing beats the Lancaster Farming for finding local deals, however.

Thanks Junkie. I was looking at the 4020's this afternoon on Tractor House, couldn't find to many in Pa. I think they were made in the 70's and that doesn't bother me as long as they were well maintained.

Just some thoughts, I'd look at a 1066 with 18-42 or 20.8-38's radial if possible R-1W with no calcium and I'd think you'd get comparable fuel economy as a 4030jd or 4020. Just some thoughts as if you'd like the pump could be turned down lower if you would like and for the lower power for the machinery you might want to pull or power.

From one of the engineers they stated they really found it at it's best at about 55 for best fuel economy and life although I'd not recommend going that low.

They are a lot of fun to drive this way as the power is always nice to use when needed. They are very aggresive when throttled up!
