I plan to take down somewhere between 100 and 200 trees and dont really feel like having constant burn piles, so I'm thinking about getting a chipper. Do you have any recommendations for one?

Thanks.

Take a look at Woodmaxx chippers. With only 20 hp at the pto, you will be limited to chipping around 4 inch hard material and around 5 inch soft material.

With that many trees, renting a larger commercial model would make more sense to me.

I agree with Chewwy re renting a commercial chipper. I've had a TPH-122 MacKissic for 16 years, but it only does up to around 3 to 3 1/2 inch and hand feed.

I'm going to be dropping the trees slowly over a period of months though, so I would have to have huge piles waiting. Might be an option though.

Maybe it depend on how much time you anticipate taking to removing the trees based on the size of the trees and your time working at it. If you buy a chipper sized to fit your tractor, it could take quite a long time......because ....sawing and stacking and hauling chips is a lot of labor. Spread over 6 - 12 months you probably could get 'er done.

Cheers,

we use a Woodmaxx manual feed and love it. No issues and in our 4th year with it. When we get a decent pile we chip it up. My wife is really happy to have the chips to use around everywhere

With that many trees to chip even over a year, you’ll regret buying a chipper with manual feed. Let the chipper do the feed work. Get mechanical or hydraulic feed. I prefer hydraulic, provides much better control of feed rate.

I have a Jinma 6in chipper for my B2620 (same some power/size as the 2601) and I don't really use it. I hate burn piles too but have gone back to them, its just not enough power to really chip up trees unless they are 3-4in and pretty straight.

I would suggest investing in a grapple and piling up branches/logs, then rent a commercial chipper once or twice.

If you're still set on a chipper the hyd. feed woodmax seems to be a pretty good product.

I recently got the wood ax’s 8 inch hydraulic feed chipper. Great machine. Usually use on 40 horse pto but have used on 2601. Worked fine but I did slow down the feed rate. The hydraulic is a must for the 2601 in my opinion. Need to slow it down so I don’t work tractor too hard. But I have chipped 5 inch hardwood but as I said I did slow the feed rate down. With a hydraulic feed I just get it started walk away and get the next branch ready. 3200 shipped to my door.

What he said. I had a stand alone chipper that would do 3 1/2" limbs. It was a PITA. I got a grapple and sold the chipper...took a heck of a loss on it but glad to get rid of it. Chipping is a lot of work and the small units are slow. Burn piles are easy if you need to burn the waste but I use some for critter habitat.
