Any opinions on New Holland Dozer reliability?

In particular a DC80, circa 2001, hydrostatic drive. I'll go through all the evaluation steps that folks here have recommended if I get serioud about it, but for now I'm just checking on overall New Holland quality and reliability.

We've always run new holland equipment including their dozers. I've never owned a new holland dozer but I have rented them more times than I can count over tha past 6 years for building motocross tracks. I never had any problems with any of them (dc 70's and dc80's) That year new holland is actually a fiatallis but for the past couple of years they have been the same as a case, well except for the color of paint! CNH is one is happy family! I think a new holland dozer is one of the best bang for the buck late model dozers out there. My local new holland dealer just sold one of their rental machines, a 2001 dc70 with 475 hrs for less than $30k. You can't even get a blown out hystat cat for that price let alone a decent one.

I'm looking at a New Holland d85 that is for sale. It looks clean and sounds good. It has 1700 hrs and is a 2007 model. The owner is asking $40k, which seems a little less than most I have seen online. I just don't much about the brand. I am also currently getting my Mitsubishi BD2H overhauled, and it has been hard to find parts for. So I am hoping that the New Holland would not have that problem. I hear they are the same as a Case.

I just sold a cherry JD 450J with 1800 in perfect condition for 35k..............i'd say that NH machine it way overpriced.......

You can make your own comparison of specs to see what kind of deal you think it is, but if I was looking for a dozer, the NH would be really high on my list. Of course, it could be abused, but if it looks and runs well, then it seems to be a bargain to me. I agree that it is priced lower than others.

I think NH is dropping thier line of dozers in the North American market and looking to Case as their only brand. They are still selling dozers in Europe. Since the dozers are similar/same as Case, I see nothing that is alarming there, but it will have an effect on the prices. I'd say it's a good time to be bargain hunting.

No experience but I'm a little leary of New Holland. I own a NH 555E loader backhoe and think it's a good machine, but I struggle with parts. They guys are great at the dealer and regularly send me to other sources because of how bad NH is. Case is worse!!!!!!

I read on another forum about the tracks, and how quickly they wear compared to Cat or Deere. If you don't run it commercially, then that probably wont matter too much.

Like anything you buy and use, support is all that really matters. It will break and you will have to get parts for it. Who is doing the repairs and where will you get them should always be the most important part of what to buy.

Hi I sat in the seat of several dozers, and I persoanally have owned a few. Im partial to deere , then cat. Ive seen very few NH on the jobs Ive worked. I can say that the other operators Ive talked to that have experience on the NH say they are a good machine for non commercial work (jobs) their comments were basiclly that they were not as strong or tough (well built) as the other machines out there. Also their resale value wasnt as well. I dont personally know, but I dont think I would want 1 , Im not a fan of Fiat or Case. Just My 0.02cts

So if NH dozers have comparitively lousy resale value and the OP is looking for a used machine, I'd call that advantage NH. Somebody else has 'enjoyed' the big depreciation hit. Fact of the matter is, the initial cost was probably less than Cat or Deere as well.

Worked on them in a rental fleet . They are the same as the Fiat FD series or the late 90's models were. We had some overheating problems but that year should have the updated radiator in it. I personally like the cummins engine as they are pretty trouble free. The one thing that I saw a lot was the lower rollers wering and their mounting bolts breaking off in the frame, took several of those broken ones out. I brought a 70, 80 and a 100 home to the farm and used them. I liked their operation but really never ran another brand oh that size range. It has been over 10 years since I worked there but parts were not too bad to get then, as long as there was a dealer nearby to order. Although Cat and JD would be better. Wish I could one on the farm.

Some of their units are Case machines, but the 70 80 100 and I think 120M are all Fiat Allis.. Actually they are rebadged Macmoter crawlers.

I tried a D100 M at Bay implement in RedBay Al. It was listed at 25k I think. It was ok but I wasnt really keen on travel control. You have a joystick like a standard hystat machine. It was more like a late model skid steer in you had to throttle it with a hand position in stead of it locking in the travel, and then using another button for settin the travel speed. It was ok but what I was doing finishing a slope when I hit a rock or root if my hand wasnt braced pretty stiff it would jar it forward and cause the machin to buck or bob.

Also the Counter rotate was on a button on top of the steering and travel joy stick took a bit to get used to. THe blade was also a little flimsy felling I tilted the blade down then push down and it didnt have wear but it deflected a bit. I liked it finishing in a small area but finishing on a larger area the travel control wore my hand out. I didnt mind holding it in travel just trying to meter itwas a little trying especially working down hill. Often I was parking it to run the older D3B with a power shift transmission for the speed control and I could rest my arm.
