All of the Arisaka's in an M! thread reminded me of the Japanese copy.

Japanese Type 4 Garand copy « Forgotten Weapons

Well, I learn something new every day... I have never heard of let alone seen a photo of that rifle before. That is interesting. Not that the Type 99 was a bad rifle, ( I never cared much for its palm safety on the end of the bolt) but if they had been armed with those or something similar about 5 years earlier, it might have made some difference for them.

A great film where the Russians speak with a British accent and the Germans speak like midwestern Americans!

In all seriousness, I really do like that movie. I'm sure that there were multiple inaccuracies in the film, but it was still enjoyable.

I think that one of the goofs was that the theatrical release poster showed a left-handed bolt action Mosin-Nagant - I would love to find one of those for my son....

I had never noticed that left hand bolt. The only for sure photo of William Bonny was a reverse image showing him wearing a left handed holster. Many thought for decades he was a lefty but he was not. There was even a movie about Billie entitled the left handed gun. But the left handed loading gate on his 73 Winchester gave away the story.

Oh yeah, that is so common. Especially Civil war and all of the big bore cartridge center fire revolvers. The .45 acp 1911 deployed on the movie Titanic. Set in April of 1912 Possible? Yes. Probable? No way. And a 1903 browning would have done just as well and been a heck of a lot more convincing to guys like me.
