Just curious if there are any old school jeepers around these parts?

If so, what do ya have?

I had... 2 old cj5s and an old postal jeep that I loved, but JEEP, stands for Just Empty Every pocket. And when the pockets got empty I had to sell them to eat.
Sometimes I miss the fun I had with them, but I do like having pocket change left in my pocket.

I had a '74 CJ-5 with the 304 V-8. Lived in AK and had unlimited trails to explore. I now have a '06 TJ with the straight six. Its the reason I don't plow my driveway every time it snows. Go in the snow!!

I have an '83 CJ-7 with the 258. I don't put a lot of miles on it that much anymore (still haven't rolled a 100k) but its my toy. I often throw the idea of selling it now and then but my wife always talks me out of it. It was my first car and have had it for over 20 years now. I have to admit it is fun to drive and take it two tracking but even for a 6 cylinder its a thirsty bugger.

On a side not its not a CJ but I just finished up restoring a '42 ford GPW Jeep for my dad. I really like driving that thing more than my CJ now to be honest. It doesn't go very fast but is not much larger than a JD Gator and the thing does remarkably well off roading for being over 70 years old.

I have an 81 CJ-5 with an aftermarket Acme hardtop. 120K thereabouts.
Anyone know where you can find the door latches that Acme used to make and use?

Currently have 3 CJs - '47 CJ2a that is my work jeep, a '49 CJ3a Farm Jeep that I'm hauling to a "Power of the Past" antique machinery show on Thursday and a '79 CJ7 Golden Eagle that I really needs a new body. Have a hardtop, but no working softtop for the 7 and we mostly drive it around the countryside in the summer. Great fun.

lhfarm - you have a great little collection of Jeeps!! I'd love to see the '49 Farm Jeep sometime! I don't have a CJ, but do have an '02 TJ that I love. I told someone just this weekend that I'd be driving it until I couldn't climb into it any more. :)

I looked up the "Power of the Past" show you're going to and assume it's the one in Greensburg, IN. I might suggest to the organizers that they make it a little easier to find the location on the website. I had to poke around a couple of pages to find that it was at the Decatur County Fairgrounds and even then it didn't say Decatur County, IN. I ended up googling "area code 812" to confirm that it was Indiana. Just a suggestion. :)

I'll pass the suggestion along at the registration table. I don't have any contacts or affiliation with the event, other than as an exhibitor. But it is a very nice show and worth a visit if you like old farm machinery.

It used to be a company called Austin, but not sure they are still around. I heard Any 1/4" shank door handle will work. Just need a close match on the attaching screw dimension . You can get them with and without locks.
Many where Eberhard 206 series latches, you need to find a list of distributors of Eberhard to hunt them down
Try here:
Industrial Hinges & Latches | Hardware Distributor | SPEP

search strikers and latches

This one may be be close
No. 206-U R&L Safety Slam Lock System | Hood Latches | Latches | OEM Hardware Group

Good Luck, I hope I gave you somewhere to start at least.

Grew up in a '442 Ford GPW, and then later a '70 CJ5. Later on, bought the CJ5 I grew up in, from guy my Dad had sold it to. Eventually sold it. Always liked running on the rocks; Rubicon etc.

My Sister and BIL have a CJ7 for almost 30 years; tricked out. Dana-44 front, Dana-60 rear, granny box, flipped axles, revrese shackle, v8. It is great on Fordyce Creek trail, Rubison. They also have a late 40's flatfender.

Well I am old, and have had several, but none now.

First was a 1949 CJ2A that I bought in 1984. Next was a 1969 CJ5 F Head with the T98 four speed. A CJ3B and two FC150's and a FC170.

Here is the 1962 Forward Control, from 1985.

Sorry for the double post. Tried to re-size. Forum won't seem to let me edit or delete for some reason.

Well jk, since ye have one too many Jeeps, I'll relieve ye of that extra one!!

My wife would let you. She's been trying to get me to sell it for years now since it mostly sits. I just can't quite bring myself to part with it.
