Any ideas what is wrong with my B2150 ?

Congrats on the fix. Glad it wasn't serious.
Generally, a clogged air filter will produce black smoke as the mixture will be too rich ( similar to a closed choke on a gas engine) but then again, as proven by your experience it can also be white.
Thats one for our books :D

The owners manual on my BX23 calls for cleaning/replaceing the air filter once a yr and for as easy a job as it is, I've adhered to it and replaced it. And unless they get clogged via debris or water in the fuel, the fuel filter(s) should go 500 hrs. Course that depends on the condition of your diesel fuel source too.

Sounds like it's ready to go :D

Yep ! I should be good to go for the winter.

I did not replace the air filter at the beginning of this past grass cutting season, but I did remove it and bang it out.

But we have had very little rain here and when I cut the grass, it was like a dust storm sometimes.

I guess that clogged it up pretty quick.

No way a filter made smoke come out of his crankcase breather. ???

Tim, it just means you have to check your filters more often! (maintenance, maintenance) Well I am off to check my filters.

I agree it sounds pretty strange.... But that's what he said. No this wasthe Service Manager and not the actual mechanic that worked on it.... so maybe something got lost in the translation.

If anyone can come up with a good explanation I'd like to hear it.

I won't have a chance until this weekend to run it hard while I finish cutting the grass in the fron of the house. I'll see how it runs when I crank the engine up and engage the mower.

Ya... a lesson learned.

But I did at least take it out and sort fo clean it at the beginning of the season.

But next time.... I will check the air filter before I send it to the dealer.

This time I needed the service anyway so it was not big deal.... but I don't want to send it to the dealer if all it needs is an air filter.

That's one of the few things "I" can do myself.

The white smoke Tim mentioned didn't come from the exhaust, but from the breather pipe. My guess is this is normal blowby. Tim how many hours on this thing?

If water was to get into the crankcase then it will heat up with the oil and turn into water vapor.

My tractor at 1400 hours has little more blowby than I really like. It's not hurting anything and I thought about re ringing it this winter. But cotton pickin rings are $50 EACH! and another head gasket at about $50. If I was smart I should have done it last year when I had the head off.

Good Luck,
Rob

Rob,

It's only got around 500 hours on it..... not really a lot.
