Any Homemade Mini Dozers?

I checked on that zturn pump (TANDEM ZTR PUMP DUP-7) at surplus center. The unit displacement is .43 cu in per pump and the unit has two pumps so a total displacement of .86cu in. They now have an details spec page on the pump/control.

Hi everyone

I just thought I'd post a couple pics of mine. 26 hp Kawasaki gas driving 2 pumps. Hydrive is a hydro motor on each side. Articulating blade, loader, backhoe and root ripper.

I have to admit that I did not build this one myself but if I had more time I would build it this way. One of the drive motors just blew so now I'm ripping it apart, making changes and rebuilding.

Cheers

I built a set of tracks for my JD. They are not full length like a dozer but go around each tire. I used channel iron for pads. I welded chain cut into 3 links each to weld to each pad creating a hinge. I put 3X3/8 in flat bar on the sides to keep them on the tire. Used 8in in back and 6in in front. Gave a coupld of inches of ground clearance and it drives just like it did as normal except that it has higher floatation and will go where I point it.

I posted this a while back, wish I had a pic of them on the rig. Here is a pic for an idea. Next post

just became a new member to this site i also am gethering up pieces to build a mini dozer. i looked at a struck 45 and I dont think that it is going to be strong enough for what i want. so im always open for opinions . but im pretty sure im going with rubber tacks. have read that small steel tracks have problems in the snow. and i dont want this to tear up driveway. your thoughts

This is my Mini dozer. Built it in the past 6 mons as a prototype for a small equipment company. Still working on the blade hydraulics, which is what the noise is in the video. Waiting for the appropriate pump, right now the pump is flowing way too much fluid for the system and causes backflow in the system.

Looks nice. In the video, it looks like it's not working very hard to push the little piles of dirt. It seems it would move a lot more than what you showed.

It will once the blade is operating correctly. The engine is only running at half throttle. I'll post more as it get it's improvements.

Well, I finally got the correct pumps on the Dirthog and oh what a difference it made. Here's some footage of it in action. By the way, the mini van is in park with the brake!

Sorry about not updating on this thread! I have forgotten about it. I am actually going to call Struckcorp tomorrow and order plans for the MT1800. I will do better on keeping ya'll up to date. Thanks.

DB

How are you making out with the minidozer plans?

I can't help myself asking, I am very curious. As I recall, Struck uses 550 (Boston Gear stock #?)conveyor chain for the tracks. The grousers are welded to the ears or tabs were the conveyor surface is mounted. Replacing the wheels of a stock lawn tractor with a sprocket would yield a great start on a crawler. For a machine of this caliber, the track frames wouldn't have to flex if they were built strong enough.

Thanks Camdigger, i have a John Deere 210 which I have thought of using as the axle for the dozer and either building tracks from scratch or using conveyor chain. I have an old Lycoming diesel engine of 6hp i want to use for power which can be seen on youtube, just look for junkman6261. I haven't started for lack of funds, and I have many other projects to complete first. I hope to possibly get started early next year. Thanks for asking and love your posts as well! DB

I had a friend who did this with tractor tires, and he said they slippped when he got into snow or wet ... but then, he put in all season or winter radial tires and end of slipping.

I am also looking at doing at a crawler vehicle for snow plowing and ice fishing; I want something that will float on mud and snow, the manufactured OEM products are amphib, and I don't care about being amphibous.
