Tractor
none (yet)
I certainly know more about tractors than the average person you walk by on the street, but I doubt I know more than any of the regular forum members here. Some day eventually I'll need to use a tractor quite often for a small personal horse farm. It'd be nice to learn about them right now, when I'm not too busy with other things in my life. A few weeks ago I drove a Cat track loader and moved some hay feeders around (but let's be honest, you could teach a 4 year old to do that) and moved a larger John Deere tractor a few feet out of the way. That's about the extent of my experience. So do any of you know of any from-the-ground-up youtube videos or something I can watch that help with the basics of operating a tractor?

It's just like this practice makes perfect if you practice perfection. Try and find someone with knowledge and have them help you sorta like drivers ed in school

maintenance on the machine! oil levels, greasing, and the various filters, cleaning radiator out, lowering and raising air pressure in rears and fronts, correct weight either on front or back or both pending on what ya doing.

do not dig down further than you have to. dig down to much and you have compaction issues later on.

pull up google and enter what you want to search for example "grease gun" but also add site:www. tractorbynet .com ((see below))
Code:
grease gun site:www.tractorbynet.com
above will only bring back stuff from this site.

i am more picture orientated, so i tend to click up on "images" once i do my search, and generally in the first i don't know 50 picture pictures, what ever i am searching for is within the first 50 pictures and takes me to a thread with info that helps me. i do the same thing with "video" i run my search and then click up "video" within google. google seems to give better results back vs trying to search directly on youtube site.

operators manual for tractor should be well worth it, for the basics, going through the DO's and more so the DO NOT's! ya a lot of laywer BS, but most operator manuals do cover a good amount of the basics.

the shop/service manual for tractor, = book that gives complete tear down of entire machine along with various specs, and how to test for things, and how to put it all back together, with a full set of descent diagrams and break out views to get you through it all.

most manufactures have an online "parts manual" garbage pictures, but *shrugs* pictures are enough to get parts order that is about all.

with above said, pull up a chair and start reading through various threads here on TBN.
if you goto a given forum, and click the "views/replies" titles to sort things, you might stumble on some rather long threads, that go into a bit more detail on different subjects, vs the shorter 20 to 40 reply threads.

Speaking of maintenance, I was messing around with a friend, giving him crap for not using Kubota, and he said his John Deeres "Don't need maintenance".

I could not stop laughing at him. I told him to call me up when they break down catastrophically and I'll set him up with a Kub.
