I have an open dove field off of a highway that is just kind of sitting there and growing brush. It's about a 5-6 acre area. I am trying to think of something I could do with it (and maybe play with my tractor at the same time). I am not a farmer, so the only really useful things I could think of are plant it with loblollies or lease it to someone to play hay to generate some cash to pay the taxes.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Hmm... first, welcome to TBN.
Second, expand your profile so we know more about where you are and what you are interested in, tractor size, etc.
Third, only 5 acres... you'll likely spend more messing with it than you get in return in $$.. now return in seat time and enjoyment is priceless...
Fourth, dove season starts here this weekend... go shoot doves!

Create an athletic field for the kids or grandkids.

I updated my info. Actually, I own 85 acres and have more open area than that. I just felt like that area was kind of wasted space. I actually thought about somehow making 2 little par 3 golf holes with it, too. I'm not worried about making any money on anything there, but thought if I did, hey, just a bonus. I thought about the loblollies to provide a little more privacy from the road frontage. I suppose I could plant a large food plot, too.

Anything to play on the tractor. :)

BTW, I call it a dove field because that's what it kind of reminds me of. But I don't dove hunt. Avid deer hunter, however.

So what if you don't, I bet you know people that do. Playing on the tractor could get some sunflower planted next spring, then bush-hogged in the fall. Right around dove season... Charge rent for those who want to hunt (just watch the insurance stuff). You could also open it up for training hunting dogs. Those groups/trainers are always looking for places to train and hold events, and wouldn't mind paying a fee. Insurance bonus - they carry thier own!

OK... food plot for deer... maybe oats.... if you can find somebody to cut 5 acres for hay in the spring... oat hay goes for a premium if somebody will bale such a small plot... if not, then turn oats under for volunteers
