Tractor
John Deere 4520 cab... formerly Yanmar 336D
In the next few years I'll be upgrading to a new or newer tractor (leaning towards 4720 right now, but I'm curious to see what is coming down as far as newer models right now, too). Yandow is my second closest JD dealer (and is still about 1.5 hours away, one way). Is it worth a trip? (I have closer dealers for other brands, and JD, but some dealers are great, some I do not wish to do business with (bad experiences), and I'm curious which category Yandow falls in to. Post here or PM me...which ever you feel comfortable with.

THANK YOU all very much...a 3 hour drive is a bit of gas these days!

I have had very positive experiences with the Ferrisburg location, I have bought parts for my 214s there over the years. I cannot say the same for their Williston location at the Agway store and I am not sure the company is doing so well, their Williston location has some parts but nothing beyond points/condensors/blades etc. and no longer has any tractors at all. Their rental location in Shelburne appears to be doing OK. I believe I dealt with Tim Yandow (apologize if wrong) looking at my 2305 TLB and he was great ( I purchased elsewhere but not due to the dealer, just the deal :)

Personally I cannot say enough for Harvest Equipment in Swanton and Newport but based on your location it may not possible. They have been 110% for me for many years and I even purchased my new 2305 TLB from them in April. They will be dropping off my 50hr service materials and a hat for my 3 year old this week ;) A salesman drops it at my door no questions asked.

Pardon my stupidity, the rental place on Shelburne Road is Harvest Equipment, not Yandow.

I wish Harvest were closer with your glowing review!

Yandow and KC Canary (Fultonville / Fonda area) are about the same distance. KC Canary used to be HUGE, but isn't anymore.

I've had good luck with Yandow...Tim the owner...is a good guy...no b.s.

Not found them always to be the cheapest but fair....being that they are my closest dealer it makes sense to stay with them...service has been good too.

Had positive expirence with Hendy Bros in Middlebury also....very price competitive.

Have never actually done business with Harvest...farest dealer from me...but they seem quite nice and I have heard good things about them

Personally price is secondary to good service both in the sale and afterward...buy locally if at all possible...the few dollars saved aren't worth a poor relationship.

my two cents

Dave

I completely agree - I've received poor after purchase service from the folks I purchased my current tractor from, and on this next purchase do not want to make a similar mistake (the last one was used...so it was finding a tractor that fit my needs locally...which was difficult at the time).

How about John Stokowski and Sons in Granville? I hadn't heard of them until a Deere Dealer search I did last night.

Thank you all for your input! I'll likely go visit a few folks this fall during my travels:)

I just drove by Stokowski and Sons on the way to Hadeka stone 2 weekends ago to buy some slate to finish my walkway and had never heard of them either, I wish I had stopped in :(

I have dealt with Stokowski's for years. I can't say enough go things about them. John and Tony Stokowski are top notch guys along with Hank who works the parts counter. They know there machines and when you come in to get a part, they not only sell you the part, but want to find out what caused the part to fail in the first place. I have only bought garden tractors off them, 318 and a X595, but when I bought my X595, Tony took the time to make me a custom bracket that attaches to my seat and fender so I could install my fender mount radio. John along with his wife Mararget and son JT, Tony and Hank are all top notch people and a pleasure to deal with.

Hmm... Sounds like I'll definitely have to wander down sometime and say hi - thank you for responding!

I have bought three tractors from Yandow over the past eight years. For the most part Tim has been fair with his pricing and fun to deal with. Their service department has always been there for me when I needed them.

I currently have a 4120 and couldn't be happier with it. It currently has 250 trouble free hours on it.

Good luck with your decision.
