Looking at getting a new side X side and have done a lot of shopping and a few test rides. Really like the functional work features of the Ranger but not the "upright bench seating position" for trail rides. The RZR has a more comfortable seating position but very little bed space. A friend suggested the Can-am Commander DPS (power steering) as the best compromise. I did a forum search and didn't find much, nothing recent.

Are there any Can-am Commander owners on here ? Any issues with your machines ? Would you recommend one or something else ?

A buddy of mine has the Can-Am. It's fine for hauling a**, not too good for hauling any weight.

I have a 13 commander 1000 dps and I love it for what I do. I mainly ride back county rds and trails, very little work. The bed is smaller than a ranger but it is dual level. I also use it to plow snow and it does a great job. If you have any questions let me know.

Thanks for the replies. 05rammer, I'm thinking I'll also use it mainly for trail rides but I wanted enough cargo space to haul a cooler, chainsaw, tools, etc. Not looking for a heavy haul dump truck. I've been following a couple ATV / UTV specific forums (mostly younger folks, with very deep pockets, trying to build the fastest, most powerful off road contraption) but not finding much practical info there. 1 thing that was mentioned a couple places was excessive heat in the cab due to the engine placement. Some even suggested an insulated cover for the console. Is this an issue in stock machines or just a result of their modifications ?

Look at the Yamaha Viking;good compromise on performance and work.

Unless you are driving really slow I can't say that heat is an issue. There is plenty of room for a cooler and chainsaw. I test drove the Viking and thought it wasn't up to Yamaha standard, even the wife harped it, it vibrates excessively and not near enough power for me.

I have a buddy who has a 3 seat 2014 Viking and he's selling it to get a 4 seat Commander. He also didn't like the vibration but the biggest issue was width. Just too wide for a lot of the trails in our area. Local Rails to trails has 60" max access posts. We have a local dealer who sells both Yamaha and Honda and they claim to sell 10 Pioneers for every Viking. I test drove both. I thought the Viking had a better ride than the Honda but I think both are playing "catch up." Haven't looked at the new Wolverine.
