ant hills everywhere: the only way i have come up with, to keep them out of the house, is to spray ant killer around all the doors and window sills. i have bought and dispersed, 3 different brands of granules, 2 had different active ingredients, but i don't remember what that was, but each bag said it covered 10,000 sq ft. so i put a ring around my house, which is 28x65, out about 15-20ft: and i still have ant hills, with ants, everywhere. i have all sorts of sprayers available, is there something i can spray that will solve this problem? other than diesel or gas and a match.

Bifen IT. I bought it on ebay. It is regulated in many states. Had a huge carpenter ant problem, it ended the problem. I spray spring and late fall (to keep insects from coming in to overwinter).

Same problem in East TN with odorous ants. I have a pest service assisting me with driving them away. We started from the insde and then worked the outside. If they come back this warm season, you can read about my resolution in the Projects thread. I'm taking the house apart...literally, until I find the source. I have scoured the yard for any above ground nests. The next place will be the interior structure of the house. If I'm lying, I'm dying...

Good luck.

I'm going to see this Bifen IT product on ebay... I'll try anything ...

It says termite control. Is this what you used? I don't care as long as it works.

Try a mix of 50% sugar, and 50% borax. Set it in containers, the ants will find it, take it back to the nest, they all have dinner, but can't tell the difference between sugar and borax and end up dead.

The other reason for buying on ebay is that in some states sale is limited to licensed pros. It is relatively safe, used according to directions, but it's still not good for us, so use proper precautions when applying. We have found it eliminated then-existent problems with ants, spiders, and yellowjackets, and keeps them away. We have never (to my knowledge) had termites....maybe this is why, maybe not.

As someone else mentioned you can try a borax mix right at the hill.

If you want a spray.. head to a farm store and pick up a bottle of permethrin oil emulsion mix. You mix the permethrim ( squeeze dosage cup on container ) and water in a sprayer.. agitate and you get a 'milky' looking emulsion. Spray around trouble spots and at hills, and around house in a barrier fashion. Last decently long.. kills just about any invertabrate.. ( happens to kill fish too ( per the label ).. so watch out.. ) Not to expensive either..

i had some of the permethrin oil on hand, and sprayed it all around the house yesterday: plus up on the sides of the house, so maybe it will help. the fascia on the north side of my garage looked like it was rotten, so i decided to remove and replace it yesterday, guess what!!! ants again, the fascia wasn't rotten, it was being eaten by "carpenter ants"? i guess?? anyway i took it all down and sprayed the gazellion ants with the permethrin mix. the siding is up off the ground from 4inches in some places to over a foot in others, and i went all around the garage, 24x28 structure, and couldn't find a single place where they where going up the side of the slab?? so i raked all pine needles, leaves etc etc back a couple feet from the sides and sprayed the heck out of the soil, plus up to the fascia on the sides.

We kept on getting invaded by carpenter ants every year.

Our solution? It was our neighbor who solved our problem, when they sold their house to someone who wanted to renovate it. They had nests all over the old place.

No more carpenters for us.
