What do you guys use for protectiong and lubricating tihings like 3 point ball joints, lynch pins, couplings etc on tractors that do not have grease fittings. I have tried using chassis lube but, it just makes a mess. We have a problem around here with salt air causing everything not coated to rust. WD40 or lube oil is messy and does not stay on very long anyway. I remember when I was in the Navy we had some stuff we used on airplanes that that was sprayed on then it dried and stayed on for a long time. It had some MIL spec # that means nothing to civilians. I would sure like to have some of that stuff.

I'm sure there are tons of things that will spray on.. and protect.. but I'll also bet that 90% of them will attract dust and dirt.. and end up being a problem.

Fogging sprays.. spray grease.. etc.. I've even seen people mix up grease and naptha or mineral spirits and spray it on.. then the light stuff evaporates leaving a grease film.. Gun spray oil.. even silicone sprays.. course.. i see them all collecting dirt.. and dirt and grease = grinding compound...

Motul Motorcycle Chain Lube works good, it leaves behind a waxy paraffinic layer of protectant after the carrier evaporates.

You might give graphite spray a try. I use it on open joints ... it dries quick. Can be a bit messy looking (but is dry). I don't know it's antirust properties.
Cheers!

Loctite has a Naptha based product with the original name of "Rust Preventer".

It's $7 a can at my local store. I sprayed a can on the nether regions of my tractor but don't really know if it's going to make that much of a difference.

I usually wipe used motor oil on some of my crappy yard tools with a brush. Seems to work pretty good but only lasts a month or so.

With the salt spray you might try CorrosionX . Offshore fisherman sware by it. They use it on boats, tackle, knifes and anything else metal. It can be bought at most any tackle store.

I have also used it on my 5th wheel hitch and it works well.

I am not sure how well this will work on tractor parts but the woodworkers use stuff called Boeshield T9 for metal tops like table saws. This stuff was developed by Boeing for planes. I have heard but not seen the data that says this is one of the best metal protectants out there. You can pick it up at places like Rockler. This does leave a slick film on the metal.

Croban35, AV8 Dinol are used in the aircraft industry for anti corrosion control, Boeing uses this stuff on brand new airplanes.
I have no idea if it is even available to the public but LPS 3 is and that is what used to be used, it just does not adhere to the metal and dry forming a barrier like Corban and Dinol but does work.
LPS 3 is available in aerosol cans and it goes on thick and can be messy.
