It seems like every time Paul Shorts comes up with a new mod that will fit my Kubota Grand L5740-HST, I just HAVE TO HAVE IT! This latest one is very practical and blends in so well, that noone would know it wasn't there from the factory. This is the hallmark of Paul's work there at Specialty Repairs Custom Mods. Paul has this knack for dreaming up these mods that blend in and make the tractor even more usable than it was when it came off the factory floor.

So, what is this latest mod? A custom extension to the rear differential lock lever. It is truly an elegant design that installs in about 30 seconds with a simple set screw. Here are some pictures of this installed on my tractor.

Nice! Always well made. I need two.

The first time I've ever heard elegant used to describe something on a tractor. I would have likely left it at functional. So that 90 degree rod is all Kubota has for a foot pedal? I think all manufacturers missed the boat on the differential lock. It needs to be a lever you can lock in. Something you don't have to stand on. If you need to lock the rear end you have a few other things going on and don't really need to be standing on a pedal.

Thank you Thomas. You were always very supportive of me and my work and Ive always appreciated it. I was out on my 5740 and got stuck a few weeks ago and only then realized I needed to do something about that little lever and that’s the design I came up with. The next day we did one for the BX series tractors and thats how those extensions got started lol.
Thanks for your business my friend. Much appreciated.

Have to agree...there have been many times where I needed to hit the diff lock AND had to have the brakes on at the same time (ie, trying to reverse up a steep hill that I was spinning on)...I wish there was a lever instead of this...

My RTV has the link to step on but also a knob to pull out to lock it down, haven't seen it on the tractors though.

Sweet. I may be placing an order very soon. The differential rod is definitely a week area on Kubota’s premium tractor. My bare bones Mahindra had an actual pedal with a rubber pad that worked perfect. I have already changed the spring on Kubota’s differential lock. The problem is the heal of my boot especially when muddy and wet tends to slip of the rod.

Great idea and design.

Looks like a trip hazard waitin to happen. Wait until somebody hooks their boot or pantleg on it and ends up on their face. Yes, ignorant people do own tractors too.

That's what I was thinking. Though I don't use diff lock often.
