I've been reading the posts related to buckets not holding level, mine wants to roll and dump. After reading the suggestions I need a little help understanding the steps to isolate without killing myself or the FEL.

I've replaced the piston assemblies in both cylinders. At first, I thought this had resolved the problem. After a couple months of inactivity due to an electrical issue (that I hope I've resolved), the problem seems to be worse in that its rolling faster. I found a leak in one of the hoses which I've replaced.

I think I'm back to the steps where I need to isolate this as to being a cylinder or valve issue. I haven't cycled the rams several times to remove air but will do that prior to moving on.

I don't have quick connects and want to try to remove and plug the hoses to see what happens but I have questions:
1) Which lines do I remove and plug in order to test the bucket's ability to hold? I guess a real detailed explanation of what to do here would be much appreciated.
2) At which points should I disconnect and plug the lines.

Someone suggested swapping the 1-2 pair with the 3-4 pair. Can I assume that means to swap the lift/lower pair with the retract/dump pair at the valve hookup?

Thanks for your patience, assistance, and suggestions.

Yes.. you can do the 1-2, 3-4 swap.. if the bucket stops doing it.. it points to a valve issue... if it keeps doing it.. it sounds like a cyl issue... perhaps one bypassing internally.

Thanks soundguy. I'll try that first.

Swapped the pairs and still had the problem.

Assuming its a cylinder problem, which means I didn't do a good job replacing the gland assemblies or the problem is somewhere else.

To isolate which cylinder is the problem, can I plug the feed and return lines that would go to each end of the cylinder and test one at a time without breaking something?

Thanks again.

Lift the cyls, remove the drop side fittings.. let them set... one should start leaking oil out the 'dead' side of the cyl.

Soundadvice: I've attached a drawing marked where I think you're saying I should disconnect. Let me know if that's the right spot. Thanks for your help.

You want to extend the cyl, then block the loader, then pull those lines and plug them, then unblock the cyl.. then pull the other lines.. if the cyls are bypassing internally.. the unblocked ports will start seeping and the cyls will begin to sag..

If you have access to compressed air, you can also remove both hoses from the cylinder, and then blow air into one of the ports. If the cylinder is bypassing internally around the gland seals, you will get air out the other port.

Koyker FEL?

Wedge: yes, its a Koyker 210.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I'll post again when I've had a chance to try them out.

Wedge: I'm very curious how you guessed it was a Koyker...

Birdman - finally got the time and the parts to try the air compressor test. First side was inconclusive, got just enough air through to get the attention of the balloon. The second side, however, blew it out! At least now I know which side to go after, and have the gland assembly to change out. Thanks for the advice, more after I replace the GA.

Replaced the piston assembly and that seems to have fixed the problem. Since I did that last summer, questioning whether the parts have a short life or what the deal is. The ring was really trashed when I took it out.

Can't believe its over use because I'm not working it that hard. Snow removal and a little gravel in the summer.

I would have to wonder whats up with that because I have the same loader Koyker 210 and I have never had to work on the cylinders. Mine is about a 94' model and I'm the original owner. I wonder if your cylinder wall might be damaged. Good luck with it.

I know this is a total different loader, but I'm having similar issues with my loader too.

This past weekend I found the left side dump cylinder over extends and bends slightly at full dump. The rod hits a stop on the loader boom, and the bucket stop hits a very worn area on the boom. This leads me to beleive that the stops are so worn that the cylinder is over extending and gonna 'kersplode if I don't remedy the bucket stops first. The Right side is not as worn, as stops just shy of the bending point. Bu tthart cylinde has develpoed a leak at the seal.

Long story short, check your full dump cycle and watch closely for any tweak in the bucket cylinders.

Thanks fellas. Will check for the tweaks and be suspicious of cylinder wall issues if it persists. I did end up replacing the cylinder last year on the other side for a different reason so that's a logical next step.

crashz - very interesting....watched my roll/retract very carefully last night. sure enough, the bar on the top rear of the bucket "rests" on the hydraulic shafts at full retract. That can't be right. Looks like there should be something on the end of the loader arms to stop the retract before it gets to that point and before that bar makes contact with the rods. I'll be looking into the koyker schematics to see if somethings missing.

Different loader but similar problems as to what's been discussed in the last couple posts.
I too had the rods bend at full dump and had to do something about it.
Here's a thread about it where the problem was found.
