I put 4 hours on my 354 with the factory oil in gearbox. It look very clean and smelled like gear oil. When I drained it...the same except a little more brown. But that is not the reason for this post.

When I went to drain the gearboxes on each side of the main gearbox that join the axle housing (sorry for the lousy description, somone called them "bull gears" if that helps) , there was not a drop of oil in either one. The drain plug had never seen oil. I guess I am lucky for checking when I did..... Most of the time on it so far has been setting so I think everything will be OK.

I special pivot pin fell out of the back hoe control lever. Lucky I have a lathe so I made a new one. No doubt I'll have more little problems, just hope no big ones.

I drove it down to the local farm supply to fill up the diesel. Sure got funny looks from most of the ol' farmers there and lots of questions.

If you are talking about the brake housing, they are dry, the plugs are to drain condensation, check for leaky seals, etc.
