Yes, nothing new in the computer world model. Everything we have now, we had then, it is just globally aware with much more complex, dressed-up interfaces.

The new buzz word is security. Well, not new, but those people giving it a shout-out, well, they are on the right track.

Computing is suffering the same fate as manufacturing: - efficiency, distribution, power centers, products and economy-of-scale.

Lead poisoning in children caused by lead house paint(good old American made house paint) is a well documented fact. Don't dismiss it if you live in an older home with flaking paint. This happens a lot in inner-city homes that have become rental units.

What I am saying is: most kids chew on toys,pacifiers, etc. most of which are made in CHINA. What about the correlation there? I did not have chinese toys when I grew up, however, I did live with lead paint. Heck, I stripped,burned, scraped lead paint when I was a kid, and no detectable lead in my blood. Furthermore, if I lived in a house and the paint started to peel,flake..I would take care of it. What about parents? I think this is just another case of,"what does the government attack next" and pass the cost on to us taxpayers. Given the ever changing figures on our current enviromental disaster disater in the gulf, I don't think ANY figures from the government can be taken seriously.

When everything is made in China and they decide to really put it to us, I guess we'll go back to fixing things (if we can get the parts).

On many trips to Turkey with the USAF, I was amazed at the crafty ability of those Turks to make/fabricate what they could not get. Cubans are masters at this too.Scary part of this is our National Defense is succumbing to this also. What happens to US when can't get parts.We lose. Look at Iran/Iraq conflict years ago when we cut off spare parts.

I'm sorry to say I can't recall who put it up, but someone recently posted a link to a site showing how you can build a milling machine out of an old engine block. So I guess we'd all better download it and print a copy for the day when we have to start making our own parts.

MossRoad, How many of those inner city houses still have lead water pipes? I ask because at work we did dug up an old water service that we we still using and guess what? lead pipe from water meter in. IIRC it was a late 80's project when we found it. I really think the kids would get more lead from lead water pipes than from the paint.

Now matter how children get exposed to lead, the effect is insidious and not always as apparent as fetal alcohol syndrome, for example.

thanks to the recommendation of batteries plus, my APC350 UPS now has a new battery and is working fine.
