I don't see how ignorance or egos has anything to do with it. If the guy had a sign on that rope prohibiting entrance on foot, business location, not just a home, then maybe I could understand his reaction, but otherwise, he's displayed his attitude and personality and no way I'd do business with him. I think you can just imagine what his attitude would be toward service in the future.

My response was going to be, give him another chance. Misunderstandings happen & everyone has a bad day, however after reading the post Bill linked, I guess this dealer needs to work on his attitude if he is going to stay in the business. Some dealers will sell tractors for low margin & ship out of state if that's what they choose. The key for a dealer to keep the local purchases from going to out of state dealers is to realize they are selling their dealership's ability to sell AND service the customer with professional & courteous attitude & build a working relationship with the customer. It's evident that a large percentage of the dealers contributing to this forum realize & practice this.

I would give the guy another chance. I mean first off you were trespassing. If my tractor was setting out in the yard and someone came down the driveway and started looking around, I'd be a little upset. I just don't think you should chalk him off the list when you never gave him a chance. Who knows, he may have the best price around, but if you want to pay more then that's up to you. After all he did nothing wrong except to inform you that the rope was there for a reason.

JCA, definition of ignorance: the state of not knowing. definition of ego: the individual self, looked on as an organized being distinct from others. It goes both ways. there was no communication, you turned around and left and this other guy told you to get off his property. In my view this is all a misunderstanding that could have been easily corrected. So who is the ingnorant and who has the ego? Both of you. This is my view and don't be insulted by it. I always say what I have to say so that you don't hear it from someone else. I'm honest and straight forward. and if some people on this post don't like it, including yourself, well your intittled to your own point of view.

If you have any doubts, you be the bigger person talk to him and give him a chance. Don't set yourself up for regrets. I hate doing the; well I should have, if I would have, why didn't I, stuff. You are going to shell out a lot of hard earned money, it is your money and you can spend it anyway you want, but spend it wisely!
"Treat others as you would like to be treated", (even if they don't cooperate or seem like they deserve it), that makes you the bigger person and the person in control of situations. I don't think I have ever dealt with anyone that I haven't learn something in the process.

I don't believe very many of you understand this ONE particular dealer. When I was up visiting my Father-in-law in Maine we were looking at Kioti's. We stopped at Batchfelder's Kioti (SP) in Lebanon and were pleasantly surprized with personalized attention even thou he was talking to a group of us (5 people in all). He gave us a generalized but informative speach about Kioti and then asked to take a look at the different models that he had on his lot. And that he would come around to talk to each of us. Before we dispersed, we asked where each was from. Most were from the Poland,ME area and told us about the Kioti dealer in that area. They all said they were greeted with verbal abuse, cuss words like "what the f%&* do you want?" etc. Not one person had a good thing to say about this dealer.

I geuss the good part is they were smart enough to know Kioti is good brand and traveled else where to purchase one. I'm sure Mr Batchfelder had no complaints. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

So I geuss I'm saying this guy has history and am not surprized by his antics. Personally, I wish Kioti would pull his license.

DEWAVE I base my reply 0n what JCA posted and if I was in the market in that area I would give him the opportunity to sell me a tractor. If at that point and time the guy would turn out to be what you say he is then I would turn and go elsewhere. CAG

What bothers me is that the good people of TBN have gone to bat for someone they don't even know (that takes courage to do ) and this has caused an internal struggle amongst ourselves (TBN'rs) for a person that is not worth it. A person or this dealer is not worth the friendships or even the simplest acquaintances that we have formed here on TBN.

When a dealer has his house and dealership on the same property, he has to know people will show up "after hours"!!

From what I'm gathering here, this dealer seems like a complete jerk. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

If Kiohio (my dealer) would have done this to me,,, I can guarantee you I would not have a Kioti! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm bullheaded!! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Thanks, DeWave, and others. I agree it would be too bad if this disagreement was taken too seriously. I've got a pretty thick skin, though, and don't take this stuff too seriously; I hope other folks don't, either.

I can't imagine calling this guy up, or stopping by again, after he threw me off his property. It ain't gonna happen. What am I gonna say, "Hey, I'm the guy who was walking up your driveway on Sunday, and you yelled out your window and kicked me off your place, but I'd like to buy a tractor from you." I don't know CAG but I honestly don't believe he'd do it, either, no matter what he says. (Then again, maybe Canadians are different. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif) Say what you want about ego, but there's something to be said for dignity and self-respect.

I don't know that this guy Gary--the Koti dealer--is a bad person. He might become my best friend some day, but if that is going to happen we'll have to meet under other circumstances, because there's no good reason for me to go marching back up that driveway again. None. I don't need his tractors, or his friendship, or anything else from him. I'm not losing any sleep over that event, but there are lots of good tractors out there, many makes and models, and lots of dealers. I'm working hard to buy local, and I'm willing to pay a little more for the priviledge. But if the local dealers don't want my business, I'll deal elsewhere. And if, for some reason, I never manage to find a dealer and a deal I like, I'll do without. However it turns out, I'll be happy. Like they say, ignorance is bliss /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks, everyone.

Jim,

I'm in the same situation that you are. It's hard for me to get to dealers when they're open, so I, too, have walked the lots after hours. Can't say I've ever been yelled at by anyone. Of course, I've also never come across the kind of dealer set up that you found.

I do understand what your saying about going back to him to talk business. But don't shoot yourself in the foot over this thing.

First of all, if you seriously want to check out Kiotis, and this dealer is the closest to you, then you OWE IT TO YOURSELF to find out more. Have you checked around the community to get a feel for this guys business? Have you talked with the Chamber of Commerce or Better Business Bureau about him? Maybe he's an excellent mechanic and is trying to expand his business. As someone else mentioned, you might just get a really sweet deal.

Second, chances are if you showed up during regular business hours, he'd never even remember you. So unless you walk in with a sign around your neck saying "Hey, I'm the trespasser that you yelled at the other day!", I don't think he'll even bat an eye. And if he does remember you and says something, it would be a chance to offer an apology and an explanation of how it all happened. As you said, maybe this guy might become your best bud!

Now having said all of that, I will say that I do not agree with how he reacted to you. As another pointed out, if he wants to be a dealer, then he needs to be prepared for people stopping by at all hours of the day. I agree it will take something extra for this guy to be viewed in a better light.

I do believe in giving people and/or businesses a second chance. But the second time that I try to deal with them will require a GREATLY improved outcome for me to consider moving ahead with some type of relationship.

I'd just hate to see you lose out on a good bargain because you happened to catch the guy on an off day. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just a quick one then I will go back to work. I knew I shouldn't have opened this thread. Jim I live just a few miles from Gary's Garage and you're right about the rope and the junk lining the driveway but I caught him on a day he was open. He was reasonably friendly and we talked tractors and implements. I have a Cub but I wanted to kick some tires and look at the new Kioti's. I didn't think his prices were to bad and like yourself I wanted to try to find a local dealer for my needs. If I remember he has a lot of experience with JD and other equipment through the years. You probably caught him on a bad day, who knows why, personal or busines reasons and he definitely didn't handle it well. Even though I have the Cub the two friendliest dealers I found was Wescott Kubota and Osgoods in Fryeburg. Both were excellent, Osgood opened up on a day he was closed and Wescott spent a lot of time with this newby. My two cents.

Folks,

Well, if I can't find a tractor I like any other way, maybe I'll give this guy another chance.

MAJMAC392 - I haven't been to Osgoods, but I, too, liked Wescott and Sons. Spoke to Rod there, and he was personable and seemed knowledgeable. But like all the Kub dealers around here, I thought their prices were high. Still not sure I'll be buying anything--got to work that out with the wife--but as a Cub-owner you'll appreaciate that I'm currently looking at a Mahindra that is really, I understand, just a relabelled Cub 7200 (think I got that model number right), made by Mitsubishi. Same horsepower, same features, 600 pounds heavier than the Kubota B7510, and more than $1K cheaper at Hammonds in Auburn.

Cheers, Jim

Not that it's really important, but unless you knew this guy on site, how do you know it was the dealer who ran you off? Maybe it was someone else who was just being protective of the property and not the dealer himself. I know I have run people off from neighborhood businesses, not tractor, when they have come around on days when the business is closed, and the owners appreciate that someone is watching. John

I work for a Kioti dealer in NH (im still waiting for my ck30 TLB to come in) but if I lived in Maine I would buy from Bachelder in a second. He is a small Branson/Kioti dealer but he is growing fast and has a good reputation
