I came across a big rattle snake which had a cottontail rabbit almost all the way down....it saw me and out the rabbit came and off went the snake before I could find something to kill it with....tall grass, open field, no rocks or sticks.
I'm gonna vote that a pet anaconda escaped, and sought to eat your drake, but it was too large.
