I had a federal secret clearance (they expire after 10 years), and currently hold a TWIC and Merchant Marine credentials, and still haven't felt compelled to wear a tinfoil hat. Some people just have to get over themselves.

Now that...that is one old song...mid to late 1960's if I recall

Think you got the wording wrong there Ray.........Old songs do not come from the 60's only classics......old songs are from the 30's 40"s:laughing::thumbsup:

Facebook is funded by the FBI and CIA and all facial recognition is monitored by same. Anyone who is part of facebook is monitored and don't tell me this is not correct because I know different. Also all security cameras in shops etc are now being linked to the same networks. Heard of Trapwire? WIKILEAKS: Surveillance Cameras Around The Country Are Being Used In A Huge Spy Network - Business Insider
Try and remove any photos of you and your family from Facebook... you can't.

Okay I won't tell you dfifferently. I will suggest you start getting your news from someone other than: Russian-state owned media network RT the Wikileaks source. Some people also believe in Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy. I am not one of the believers, the FBI, CIA or any other government agencies is spying on people, or Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy.

Given the technology available today and the mind set of countless individuals, posting photographs of self or family members were anyone with web access can copy and print does not sound like a good idea to me. I don't worry about someone in government missusing the information or data, but I do worry about others in our modern day society searching for such information and missusing it for financial gain.

It's astonishing how many people will post pictures of themselves getting ready to leave for vacation and neglect to remove the GPS data from them - make sit super simple for any burglar to know when you'll be gone and where you live. Yes, FB is one place where that happens a lot, but it happens on all the others, too.

As for the "gummint" using private security cameras in a big conspiracy - nope won't fly. I was a police administrator for years and I know who does and doesn't do that sort of thing. Our government isn't one of them to any degree - yet. It will ultimately happen, though not as a conspiracy, but like Great Britain does for policing and domestic security. A number of Interpol nations do use facial recognition software in conjunction with public and private security cameras to try to identify wanted terrorists and the like, but there are limits to what can be done with the typical low-resolution images from most private CCTV images. High-res cameras like those used for public safety operations are a different matter. It's amazing how well some of the FR algorithms can work, given sufficiently detailed images.

In the US it is more likely that you'll see limited tracking of individuals through RFID chips in drivers' licenses, credit cards and the like. There are already companies trying to peddle systems using RFID transceivers mounted in traffic signals to track people, but the number-crunching requirements are pretty huge still, and virtually all the people I've talked with are wary of it due to political considerations. Tough to get that one accepted by the public. They will get it done one of these days, though. 1984 may have come and gone largely unnoticed, but Orwell's vision is steadily coming to pass as people allow legislators to increasingly encroach on the Constitution. But FB funded by the FBI and CIA for domestic spying? Don't be gullible! Though at the rate FB share prices are plunging from their IPO price, you could easily think the government was involved - nobody else loses money as fast as our gummint. (grin)

I am no longer surprised much by the silly stuff the people will read on the internet and wholeheartedly swallow. The goofy conspiracy theories out there are myriad and bizarre. No one who has ever chaired a committee could believe that that many people could be involved in a conspiracy and have it even vaguely resemble functional. Two people can keep a secret - if one of them is dead. Two hundred or two thousand? It is to laugh. To make one actually function with more than a few people involved beggars the imagination.

At my feeble level of existence, I doubt I have much to fear. Why would anyone single out one lemming, and why should a lemming be paranoid?

That's pretty much my feelings too, Bob. I'm just not significant enough to be a target for much of anyone.

As for government excesses with wiretapping and surveillance, that's been going on much longer than most people realize and is getting worse by the day. Ever since the inception of Homeland (in)Security, the gummint has been steadily infringing on citizens' Constitutional rights and itwil only get much worse unless the peope raise a realy hue and cry about it. With our rabidly conservative, right-wing Supreme Court, anything is possible.

What we all really need to fear is those geeks who steel identities. Had that done to me. What a nightmare. They got my identity NOT by accident, well sort of, but by a computer glitch between a bank and a telemarketing group. It took me EIGHT blankety blank years to get it straightened out... OYE VEY!

It is easy to get someone else's identity. Don't photocopy your id at kinkos. Make sure and shred your bank statements. NEVER let someone photocopy or scan your ID at the doctors office, grocery store, etcetera. JUST DON'T. DO NOT give your social security number over the phone EVER and don't post your birthdate or mother's maiden name (or use it as a secret code to get your password) on the internet! EVER, EVER, EVER.

The computer hard drives in photocopy machines are not taken out or wiped on copy machines when they are sold.
