I have another BX2200 fuel tank leak. This is my 3rd leak.

I replaced the small kidney tank about 1 year ago. I replaced the main fuel tank about 6 months ago and have developed another leak in the main fuel tank. This is down right annoying. The tractor has only 86 hours.

Have any of you guys had this much trouble with fuel tank leaks?
I am also wondering if Kubota will warranty the tank again. The last time the machine went for the repair it was in the shop for three weeks. Not a good time of year to give up your tractor for 3 weeks again.

Jon,

Do you know where it's leaking from (a seam, joint, etc.). It seems that if you are having repeated failures, the problem isn't the tank. I haven't looked closely at the tank on mine, but is there possibly a bolt/chunk of metal/some other obstruction that could be wearing a hole in the tank? Or possibly something binding when the tank is installed, putting stress on the tank and leading to seam failure? I would think your dealer would be suspicious enough to check these possibilities, but you might want to say something to them, just in case. Since this is a failure of a part replaced under warranty, I would hope they would warrant the new one. Good luck.

I have a bx 2200 and so does my friend. Both tractors have a main (black tank) Fuel tank leak. It's coming from the fuel sensor unit under the left fender where the rops bolts up. Kubota is aware of this problem and have a kit for it. I have already changed mine myself. It looks like the tank is leaking at the seam but if you look close you will see it's coming from the upper left side and running down using the seam as a wicking device. Kit # K2561-96140 Good Luck!

Rooster,
Thanks for the information!!!!!! Did you have to remove the roll bar and fender to access the tank to install the kit. What did the kit consisit of?

Thanks for the help.

Jon,
Yes, both fenders had to come off. It only tells you to remove the left one, but I found I could move the tank around a little easier with the right one removed. By the time you get the left one off the right one comes off pretty easy.
The sensor is hard to get at. When you take everything off that the information says to, it's still tight to get the sensor out, but can be done.
The kit gives you a new seal, housing, and redesigned hardware to hold the sensor tight against the tank. They clamp the sensor down. You will notice when you remove the old housing that it was never held tight to the tank. Just slips down into a rubber sleeve. The new design is a great improvement and if you use a little gasket sealer it assures a tight seal. Good luck! If you have anymore questions, I will be glad to help.

Rooster,

Thanks for the help!!!!!!!

I am going to order the part tomorrow. The only thing that really confuses me is that the tractor was taken to the dealer last fall to replace the main fuel tank. He told me at the time that he also made some modification to the fuel sensor. So, I don't know if he made this specific modification you are talking about, however, it is leaking and is coming from the exact location you are describing.

Again, thanks....

Jon,
Your welcome. The instructions tells you to use gasket sealer if the tank is a little uneven. Your dealer might not have done that. Also, I got the impression from the regional rep I talked to that the kit was just approved and released to be sent out in April of this year (2002). I got mine about a month ago. The kits might have been available to "dealers only" back when your tractor was worked on. If they installed that kit, it should be in their records. Anyhow, this gives you some information that should be helpful in getting the problem solved. Mine is dry as can be now. Once again, goodluck!

Do you happen to know what the Service Bulletin number on this is? My dealer seems unaware of it....

Charliebrn,
I checked, but could not find a service bulletin number on the box the kit came in or the instructions. The title on the instructions states: " fuel stay kit". My friends dealer and my dealer was not aware of it either. I called out to California and talked to customer service, and they are aware of it. Also, I had left a message with my regional Rep before I called California. The rep called back later that day and I told him my dealer ordered me another main fuel tank because mine was leaking. He said " We need to stop that because, it's not your tank, it's the sensor and we have a kit for it. I'll call your dealer and send it to him". My dealer got the kit in about a week and I picked it up and installed it. Your dealer should be able to punch the kit # in and it should come up.

I certainly hope Kubota is providing these parts free. And, since this is a known problem and they have come out with a Mod Kit, I feel they should have the dealer install it at Kubota's expense.

When I bought my 2200 this spring the dealer mentioned they had a problem with tanks and they got kits for all they had sold to date and changed them all. I kind of got the impression there was a recall. If they actually did that I would be impressed if it takes as much dis-assembly as you fella's mention. I must either have a Bull crapping dealer or one hell of a dealer. Tom

Tom,
At first the fuel tank problem with the bx's was the "white" bladder tank, mounted on the inside of the frame behind the left tire. I have replaced that one on my tractor over a year ago. Kubota would have done it, but it's not worth the hassle to take it in, so I just do the work myself.
This current leak is with the main "black' tank at the fuel sensor. The kit was free of charge. I prefer to do the work myself because I know I will take my time and do it right. Plus I can have the tractor back in operation quicker then they can. To date I have done the work on all the service bulletins and installed all replacement kits on my tractor. The dis-assembly that is mentioned is required to access the fuel sensor. Kubota did send me a letter on the white fuel tank leak about 2 months after I had already installed the new one. One thing for sure about this web site is you will find out information alot sooner here then waiting on Kubota to notify you. It seems Kubota does a good job a keeping their dealers in the dark too. Like I stated before, I had to call California to get the ball rolling on this issue.

I called my dealer this morning (Fruit Acres Tractor - John Pero) regarding the leak around my fuel sensor. He is aware of the problem and told me that Kubota has a kit available to solve it.

Therefore, there are dealers who are aware of the problem.

Rooster, thanks for clearing that up... I have the black tank on mine..... I kind of wondered about me having a problem some day.... Even though I bought new, you never know how long they have been in the crate.

Tom,
Your welcome. Hopefully you wont have any trouble out of yours. If you do, at least you know about the kit now.
I hope I didn't confuse you about the fuel tanks. There are two fuel tanks on all the bx's. The main tank is black and holds 5.5 gal. There is also a very small white tank. Your tractor has both of them on it. The white tank only holds a cup or less of diesel fuel. It is located on the inside of the frame, behind the left rear wheel. Originally that tank started leaking at the seams and Kubota came out with a replacement tank. Now the main black tanks are starting to leak around the fuel sensor on some tractors. Kubota has just come out with a kit for this fix. The kit is installed onto the existing black tank. Not trying to beat a dead horse, just didn't want to leave you with the impression that the black tank is a replacement tank.

There are 2 filters and a fuel pump in the line. The small tank handles recirculated fuel from the lubrication side of the injector pump, nearest I can tell. It may also serve to stabilize fuel flow in a low-fuel situation....

Rooster, Once again, thanks for clearing that up.... I was confused and didn't even know it....... Best way to be I guess..

Best thing about this discussion is I won't feel like "it only happened to me" if something does go wrong...... I now have an informed way of talking to the dealer if/when a problem pops up. Tom

Well my black tank let go today.
Somewhere right above the left rear tire. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Add another item to the list.

Also notice that the bracket for the air cleaner is also broken. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Add yet another item to the ever growing list.

Also the left blinker has a mind of it's own.
Not a big deal but it comes on all by itself, stay on then goes off. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Hours = 305

I called the person that sold me this POS and
after a discussion on warranty, pick up and deliver,
they are coming out on Friday 8/22/03 to pick it up.
"Just leave it in the driveway and we'll be by on Friday."
I've heard that a few times before.

maybe this time - Hope springs eternal.

Yeah Dave, my tank went in the same place about 3 months ago. Dealer said he was going to stop by and do the retrofit about 3 months ago (yeah, right!).
I need to call him again as the 2 year warranty will be up next month, thanks for reminding me.

Bob
