When I graduated high school in 1964 our family went on a trip. Stopped for my cousins wedding in Chicago, from there we went on Route 66 to Phoenix, AZ to visit a friend of my Dad's.

Next was the Mojave Desert where my Mother's sister, husband and kids lived. Don't remember where. My cousin took us for a ride to El Mirage Lake, he was driving his Dad's pickup 75 mph and there wasn't any feeling of speed, because there wasn't anything there. Of course you could see the lake in front of you that also wasn't there.

It was interesting coming from the UP of Michigan, which is 83% forest to the desert.
