Jake Norman died yesterday. He was a good man.

We'll be going to his funeral in south east Texas Wednesday. Hug someone close to you for us.

Jake was a coonass. That's a rare breed and an acquired taste. But once you learn to appreciate it, you're hooked.

It was Jake who introduced me to cajun open pit pig cooking. I'm sure there are other ways to cook a pig. But there's nothing, I mean nothing, that compares to Jake's way.

Sorry to hear of your loss, it sounds like he was a good man. Hate to be dumb but what is a coonass?

Looks like Harvey isn't online, so to answer your question; that's a Cajun. Lots of the in Louisiana and quite a few in East Texas.:D And while I've no experience with Jake's method of cooking a pig, I've sure enjoyed lots of other Cajun cookin'.

Think of it as a term of endearment.

Very sorry to hear this news, Harvey. I have an aquaintance who is a Cajun, married to a French lady. They live in Southern LA and really have some stories to tell. Learned somet things about cajun cooking also, but not cooking a whole pig.

Harvey, I also lost a friend and went to his funeral on Saturday. He was my next-door neighbor for over 20 years in Grand Prairie. I had been a pallbearer at his wife's funeral.

He was 92 when he passed away. He had not been sick or hospitalized, but rather, he died quickly of a stroke. His funeral was a celebration of a long life of a well-loved friend of many. It was both sad and joyful if you know what I mean.

Maybe ol' Jake and Elwood will meet up and tell a few stories.:)
