Annual fuel cost per household

Our local paper has a story today that claims the average household will spend $4155 on gasoline this year. Although my primary vehicle is a 3/4 ton gas sucker, being retired means I drive very little compared to those who commute to work5 days a week. I keep careful records of my fuel purchases, and right now both my car and truck are full, and I have 15 gallons of gas stored for my snowblowers. My Deere is full, and I have 12 gallons of diesel stored.

Total gasoline costs for this year...$753. Probably $43 of it was for lawn mowing, my rototiller, weedeaters, snowblowers, ATV, etc.

Total diesel costs for this year....$284. I have kept careful records so far this year my Deere has logged 122 operating hours. At the local price that has averaged about $3.75 per gallon this year, I purchased just under 76 gallons. Fuel consumption works out to .623 gph...:thumbsup: And yes, I figured in the 12 gallons I have stored.

Do any of you guys keep records of how much your fuel expenses are?

I am in the same boat as you.

For my vehicles:

I run $75 a week in my Titan. Thats $3900

I run $50 a week in the BMW. Thats $2600

I run $50 a week in the F-350 Diesel. Thats another $2600

Mowers, weed eater, Genny, Chain Saw, ect average $125

Tractor uses about $275 per year

Thats about $9500 per year on the stuff around the house. I would guess the boat is about $3000 per year on top of that.

And, no, I dont get to right off any for business. The little lady does get some millage through work in the BMW but not much.

Keep track of auto gas boat gas and yard gas. Which is tractor lowers and anything else requiring gas out of a can. The cara get the cheapest. Everything else gets the higher octane stuff as well as the boat. Truck is diesel and I use offroad for the tractor Ita all on quicken but i have not run a report lately. I guess it would be slightly depressing

My fuel bill for the year is around $3,000 just for me and that is in a vehicle that gets 40-45mpg.

Wife texted me from work today, she left her Iphone home this morning and just HAD to have it so I burned up $4 worth of gas taking it to her. To a retired cheapskate like me I really HATE to burn gas for no good reason...and there wasn't anything I needed to shop for anyplace.

Lets see, she burns at least $20 worth of gas a week going to work and back, and in total puts over 8,000 miles a year on a car that gets 32 mpg. $900 a year @ average of $3.60 per gallon.

Back in the middle 80's my brother commuted 60 miles one way to work, he drove a 20 mpg truck. I feel sorry for people who have a commute that far these days with $4 a gallon gas.

Personal fuel cost this ytd is $678.09
Buisness fuel cost this ytd is $12,439.71 3 trucks and a Dodge caravan
fill the yard tank every 5 weeks or so with 475 gal at a crack

Do most of my running around on the way home from work, so only personal fuel is on Sundays running into town for church and such.

My household averages approx $900 a month. Around $11,000 a yr in fuel.

I love my Dodge Ram with Lifetime Bumper to Bumper warranty but the 13.6 mpg avg is costly!
