Interesting thread....

My thoughts when I found this wealth of information was
- great NO registration required

It opened up from there... I could get the "feel" for the board, what the pecking order is/was and did...
- all lurking

I posted on saftey, my first post and felt that the "feel" of the board was right enough for me to "register". Reveal a little about myself and my speck of dirt on the planet.

I feel the registration option, as it was then, allowed me to figure out if I wanted to become a "member" on MY terms.

Face it, many time you can provide information and you know what happens next...

Those that lurk or are not registered are not all bad, those that shoot and run, well, noise is all that they contribute.

Alas, the technology must keep Mr. Moderator happy, they must not spend their time tracking noise and house cleaning.
So registration comes,,, we just must hope it is simple enough and not too demanding to scare away potential contributers.

I'm not registered, and i'm not here to stir up trouble. I personally know and have met at least one of the registered users on this site, and i'm NOT hard to find on other similar sites either.

I've had people on this site suggest to me that "if" i registered on this site, i'd be taken more "seriously". REALLY?????????? registering will make me more knowledgeable??

Not a day goes by that i don't get a personal email from one to four or five people asking me for help with a problem, or asking for my experiences with a possible purchase that they are thinking of makeing. None of these people would think i'm be more believably by registering here, so why would you???

I come here to relate my expierences, and to pass on info of things i know something about, you can use it or not! That's for you to decide.

I try to make a point of NOT registering at any site, and i go to many of the more popular ag., saw milling, wood working, sites. I've yet to see where registration had helped to curb any abuse at the sites requireing regristration.

I NEVER give out my credit card numbers or anything like that over the net either. I pay for my photo storage with a personal check. Some seem comfortable buying on line with their credit cards, but not me!

What i "HAVE" seen, is the bone head hackers and virus makers get ahold of the registered info and use it! Not even 5 minutes ago i deleted a virus, that my addy was taken from a site requireing registration!! You can say, you can prevent that from happening, but in time it can-does-and WILL happen!!

In my opinion you will loose some valuable information "if" you require registration, so i vote NO.

i agree to an extent on registration, but, there's always a BUT in every aspect of life and i have seen a few here. a simple way to get rid of "annoying unregistered posters" is not to respond to the obvious ploy such as " XXXX not worth the risk" posts. these posts got alot of response from all of you. this is akind to government making laws to control everything such as seat belts, helmets, car seats ect.. if the public would just do one simple thing, don't buy the stuff that's unsafe or you don't like and the market will take care of those things on it's own. no regulation needed. i would rather be self regulated than have a big brother take care of me. kind of a darwins theory of evolution. let the stupid die. i guess i might have moved into the realm of annoying registered user but, i didn't participate in the "xxxx not worth the risk" as soon as i figured out what wa going on.

I have been viewing TBN for over 2 years. I came across TBN while researching on line in preperation for buying a compact trector. I'm certainly glad that I found TBN and I'm glad I wasn't required to register. I wouldn't have. I most likely won't if it becomes a requirement. From my own experience, I truly appreciate Robert in W. Mi. 's comments about a list, any list, being less than secure forever.In the past 5ys, I've had my credit card # used fraudulenty twice and my driver's license revoked because my SS# was falsely given as ID in a traffic violation. The credit card company immediatly corrected my acct. (it pays to check your bill promptly against your receipts and notify them quickly of any discrepancy) and it took more than a half dozen phone calls to DMV, 2 county judges and thankfully a clerk/administrator who took the time & effort to help straighten the mess out.... And just a note: I have never given out my SS# unless absolutely needed and necessary to me. I have bought merchandise over the phone with my credit card and never purchase via internet. I've posted on TBN twice before. Once just before seeing this thread today. The other long ago. I check TBN once or twice a month. I had only driven a tractor a few times in my life before purchasing a TC35d in 2000 so I tend to listen a lot more than contribute to the conversation here.I'm sure TBN would chug along just fine without me... but perhaps would be a bit less without all the "unregistered" me's and Robert's and those who have yet to find us. I can live a fine life without access to Posting on TBN, or even without access at all. But my knowledge and understanding of things tractor would be diminshed a bit. As a rule , I do not register or accept cookies from sites unless that site is absolutely needed and necessary to me. This is a good group. We give and take what we need, enjoy, and think is relevent for us. My vote is for NOT requiring registration. I've learned alot and enjoy listening to you folks here at TBN.Thanks for hearing this really long "on my soapbox" reply. WDen Oh by the way, I really like my TC35D, 17LA w HD bkt, 758C back hoe, Woods RD7200, Bush Hog 6' box blade... I live in Kentucky on 11acres (in town) and trailor the tractor 25mi. to my Dad's acre on my Uncles 160+ acres. Not an active farm... hay in the bottoms and few other fields... lots of woods and about a half mile of gravel drive through the woods.

Robert, you are EXACTLY the type of poster to whom I referred.

One middle ground option might be to "register" with a free Yahoo or Hotmail address. If you never go there to get your Yahoo or Hotmail email then you'll never get a virus from registering. We'd all still have the benefit of your input and you'd be protected as you wish and deserve. Is that workable?

Thought I, as a newbie, would add my 2 cents.
This has got to be the best overall site for obtaining information AND support I have seen. The integrity of the participants seems to be of the highest caliber. And that my friends is why the trolls try to stir things up.

Troll thinking "Why not bring everyone down to my level" IMHO

Now I am not trying to bash the unregistered users who fit in the "posters with integrity", but only commenting on trolls.

I registered, in part, because I felt that if I wanted to ask questions, responders should be able to know who I am. There are too many valuable folks on this site to tie them up with "drive-by" type questions.

And, who are you willing to help more? A totally anonymous person or someone that is atleast registered to the group, even if they haven't filled in a profile, insert a sad face here.
By the way, were/how do you get the faces? I would like to be able to better express the intent of my comments, ie saracstic.

IMHO, registration is probably a good thing for those who wish to post. For those who just wish to just gleen infomation, I see no need for registration.

I think most people are sincere in their posts of questions and thus deserving of all the help the group can muster, but its the arrant posts that will keep the truly sincere from getting all the top notch help available.

I probably fall in to the category of "read alot, post a few", but that will change over time as I get more comfortable with the group.

Registered or unresistered I look forward to getting to know the group better and individuals better.

Well I've been here a coupla years now. Registered on day 2 after finding this wonderful site.Feel like I've contributed to some, helped some, had some fun. I have received by far more good help than I have given.

Last week I got to the John Deere forum and found Blurry Bill's dilemma. The thread was The Tructh 4310, the good,the bad, the mostly ugly. I'm sure most of you have seen it. Now Blurry did not make all the right, or smart decisions in this tractor purchase, but I was HURTING for this guy. As I think Bird said ,more or less ,who among us has not done some of the same things in our life, maybe more than once. I have!

A few people , Muhammad included, were a little rough on him but I concede they made good valid points. I do not think their intent was to be cruel.

I ran across this Wise Guy (user name) unregistered that made a post and he pretty much chewed Blurry Bill up one side and down the other. It REALLY TICKED ME OFF!!!!!! It was uncalled for in my opinion and just mean spirited. I felt compelled to reply to Wise Guy which was simply "Buzz Off Aptly Named"
I just tried to search for any posts by Wise Guy and found none. Don't know if you can search and find an unregistered user??? Any way in over 2 years he is the only guy I wanted out of here and I hope he is gone and I am the reason for it.

I don't mind anyone lurking, reading posts that are unregistered. I understand many peoples fear, however unfounded / or correct, about signing up for anything on the Internet. I do think only registered people should be allowed to post.
