We have about 2 acres of oak trees behind our house, and I want to make sure I do nothing that would compromise their health. Here is a picture of a few of the small ones.

There is a pipe that comes out from the garage floor and drains 10' from this tree. I only wash off the garage floor, but I am thinking even road salt off the cars is a bad thing. I want to trench a 3" pipe to take the waste water away from the oaks, but I have heard you have to be so careful with the roots. I would make the trench as shallow as possible (5"), but the line would go within 10' or so of a few oaks, I don't see any large roots at ground level where the trench would be. Does anyone see this trenching as causing potential harm to the trees, to leave it as is may cause problems over the long term. Any other care tips for large oaks, what I have read says trip out the dead and just leave them alone is the best care you can give.

Thanks
Bruce
