We also do hay up to 10 miles from home, The hot top does all the wear, and I mean all. I have field tractors that I trailer, that have 25 year old tires on them, new tractors over the road wear a lot faster. My loader tractor is on hot top and concrete more than it is off and every 5 years or 1200 hrs or so its looking for rubber. I can load a tractor and rake on my 1 ton and equipment trailer and haul it to the field unload faster than driving the tractor anyways, plus its easier on the equipment. Over 5 miles we trailer most of the time, exception will be when hauling equipment I can't fit on the trailer with tractor, chopper, MoCo, Baler. Even then a lot of the time the tractor is already in the field and I just haul the equip with a truck. I try to hop my equipment field to field and back again to minimize moving anyway.
