About 5 months ago I bought a '96 Cub Cadet 4wd with FEL and approx 300 hours on it. It was well maintained and garage kept. What I have noticed after about 75 hours of use is that some bolts really like to loosen up on this machine. In particular, the rear wheel mounting bolts and the engine block to frame bolts. I had lost 2 of my wheel bolts before I realized they had gotten loose. In replacing/tightening those, I found loose block to frame bolts. I've never really encountered this before (35 years of restoring & collecting old AC's and IH's).

Is this normal or something unusual about my tractor ?
Anything else I should be watching for ?

I've got a 7264.
I checked the wheels several times and nothing loose.
Never check engine mounts but I will.

mine worked a little loose too. Nothing a little Loktite wouldn't solve though.

Watch those engine bolts.
I bought a used 7275 with 2000 hrs on it.
The motor was replace at about 1200 hrs according to the fellow I bought the machine from. He did not know why the previos owner had to replaced the motor. I asked the service manager at the local dealer what he thought about the machine. He had nothing but praise for the tractor especially the engine he said that the only problems he had seen was that the bolts on the motor to frame had loosened up on several machines and in two cases had caused the block to crack. Needless to say the first thing I did was go home and check those bolts. He claimed that those motors with proper maint. will easily last 5k to 6k hours. He was almost positive that was the cause of the premature failure of that motor.

B52, I've got a 7234 and the dealer warned me when I bought it about keeping various bolts tight but I have never found any loose. I've used it fairly hard with the FEL on it but I only have a little over 160 hours on it. The dealer, now out of business, told of a guy who had some loosen up while still under warranty and the factory advised the dealer to buy the guy a torque wrench so he wouldn't do any more damage to the Cub.

Yes, they were a great dealer. And they had a fair inventory of used implements to chose from.

yea, but they are not cheap! I bought a used LP bush hog from them, but my box blade and PHD were cheaper to buy elsewhere, even after paying freight. I'd love to do more business with them since I only live 2 miles away. But I just can't afford to. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
