2 mile drive

Way easier than cans

Andy

If there were all roads that had 45 mph or less speed limits I wouldn't mind doing this but since I only need a 5 gal can of fuel about once a month its not worth the safety risk.

5 gallon can. Rest it on the hood, and pour.

Exactly...should it be harder than this?

I'd have to have 3-4' of extension spout, given the tank is behind the seat.......

5 gallons is 40 lbs. Lifting 40 lbs to shoulder level to put gas can on hood is risking injury. Using a cheap battery powered pump is much easier

Yup back in the day I could take 5 gal of fuel and throw it over the tractor, but now It's just hard to get 5 gal off the ground let alone on tractor hood. So to over come gravity in later years, transfer pump is the only way for me.

Oldpath05,

I hear ya.... I can 't swing those 5 gallon jugs around like I used to either.

It's extremely hard to hoist it on top of the hood in the middle of the tractor with the FEL attached.

I too, have started using a transfer pump.

It's true... when you get older, you really DO learn to work smart... not hard.

Like tradosaurus mention, lifting 40 lbs at shoulder height on tractor hood can cause injury. Four years ago was the last time for me, it was one of those times when the brain made a contract that my body couldn't fulfill.

Theres been some very good links here on this thread on fair priced transfer pumps, so anyone here pushing 60 get one now cause I have some good news and some bad news for ya, the good news is that we get older, the bad news is that we get older..............

I got tired of hauling the 5 gallon jugs and filling in the tax forms to recover the highway tak for farm use, so I finally bought a NEW 55 USG drum ($121), used manual pump ($20) and a drum lifter ($80) and made a chain attachement to unload from my pickup. There is a dyed diesel cardlock her in Milton ON, but you can not use 5 gal jugs as the nozzle is big truck size. The drum has a 2 inch opening. All works great! Tomorrow I am going to add an inline oil-water filter, just to be safe.
