Is Amsoil good stuff? How well suited is it for a garden tractor engine (JD X485)? I'm about to use Castrol Syntec. I have a bit more than 100 hours on the tractor. Is Royal Purple better than Castrol and Amsoil? Thanks

I doubt if you can discuss this on here, without starting World War 3. I will say I use it in my TLB, Engine and Hydrostatic Transmission, as well as their grease and am very happy after 3 years. They will be happy to help you select the right products to use if your not sure.

Why would discussing the merits of Amsoil/Royal Purple/Castrol Syntec start a World War...We are talking about oil...right?? Is Amsoil a lesser quality oil because they don't have an API rating according to something I read on this site. Also, where do you buy Amsoil, I've never seen it for sale anywhere? Is it a Chinese oil? Thanks

1st, for full disclosure I'm an Amsoil dealer. I run it in my bike, cars, garden tractor & after the 50 hour service my SCUT. I too don't wish to start a Pi@@ing match regarding the oil. I first read up on it & tried it on my bike. I immediately noticed the difference. I've run synthetic before and It "felt" better to me. I do the once a year oil changes on both vehicles. I trust it enough to use in the Jag.

It's your call. I'm sure there will be other opinions, but that's my personal experience. Regarding ordering it. Amsoil is distributed through a MLM network. To buy it you have to go through a dealer, or become a preferred customer or a dealer yourself. . If you want to order some send me a PM I'll send you the info. I don't think it would be appropriate or appreciated if I posted my dealer number on the site.

Let the flaming begin

It's not an import. It's a company in Superior Wisconsin. I believe it's the best oil there is. Why? because they say it's the best and if it wasn't you can bet BIG MOBIL 1 would take them to court and that little company in Superior would go POOF! and Amsoil would be no more. I run it in my truck, series 3000 5w30. I am running Mobil 1 in my Kubota cause a cold snap came in and caught me with summer oil and it started very hard and didn't want to wait a few days. It will get Amsoil next time. My Allison tranny is going to get Amsoil next time too. They have a weird way of selling it though.Make sure you get prefered customer prices or it is not worth it. Google Amsoil extended drains and find read unbelievable extended drains and the oil is still good. Later Steve.

I use Amsoil in all the gearboxes of our Dodge Ram (i.e. transmission, transfer case, front and rear diffs) and I am very happy with it. The truck seems livelier since I made the switch. I am planning to put it in the same parts of my Suburban in the next year or two when miles justify a change-out. I am convinced Amsoil is one of the top brands. Absolute top? How would I tell? What test would prove it?

I expect Amsoil motor oil is great, but since I am routinely finding major name brand full-synthetic oils on sale for only $1-2 a quart (often after rebates) I can't really justify spending $5-8/quart on Amsoil. My Suburban currently has 6 quarts of Pennzoil Platinum that cost me a mere $6 after rebates. (Can't beat that deal with a stick!) I might feel different if I had a Corvette or some other really nice, pricey, fast car.

Actually saying your product is "the best" is considered "puffery" in the legal world and doesn't require you prove anything. It's not regarded as a factual claim, just a marketing slogan. Imagine how many lawsuits there would be if you could sue someone for saying their product is "The best" whenever you disagree?

Holy Cow! $7.40 per quart for Amsoil ATM SAE 10W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil! Can it really be worth that much money?? I found this price through a dealer website. Gosh, I've never seen a quart of oil cost this much.

Is Amsoil really that much better than Castrol Syntec or the other synthetics like Rotella, Pennzoil Platinum, Mobil, etc...???? If so why? And can it be proven to be better?? Could the high prices just be a result of the multi level marketing/pyramid marketing methods or are the Amsoil products really that good. Thanks guys.
