I've had my Beta-master ...

... I always have to be careful writing that as for some reason it always make me think of Eddie Murphy and young Master Bates.

I had/have no idea. It has a pistol grip so it's not of interest to me at all. I don't do that stuff and never have. Pistol grips (except on a pistol) have no place in my realm of sporting firearms.
SO, if I hack saw off the pistol grip on a MSR (modern sporting rifle) it will "instantly" become just wonderful and you will smile and like it??

UNLESS you've been living under a rock, it was "hand guns" that were on TV as the terrible killers, BEFORE the "assault" on MSR's!! NO matter if some one was knifed or ball batted to death, the news ALWAYS put the image of a hand gun up as they talked about the murder!

So... let's see if we can avoid getting this banned as well.

In theory, could an SKS be converted to 6.5 Grendel by boring barrel, lining to 6.5mm, rechambering and cutting gas port in the liner at original location?

Tell me, how do you 'bore' a barrel? I'm curious.

My basic understanding, is you oversize the bore with a reamer, the silver solder a liner in it. I'm not saying I am capable, the idea just intrigues me. I feel an SKS or SVD would make a better base for the gun than an oversized AK, like is used for M76, PSL, Saiga, and VEPR.

There might possibly be enough meat there to ream the chamber for Grendel but SKS bullets are .311 and 6.5mm is .264 so yea it would shoot but it wouldn't be accurate as the bullet would just rattle down the barrel. It could be possible I guess to jam some kind of sleve down the barrel to do something like what you're saying (early on in the development of center fire rifle cartridges/barrels there were all kinds of caliber conversion things available - for shotguns too) but in all honesty it would be cheaper to just buy a Grendel barrel ... of if you're looking for a project - buy a 6.5 Green Mountain barrel (they are about as inexpensive as they get) and chamber/profile it yourself.

The whole point of a Grendel is the accuracy and crazy match grade bullet selection so you would be shooting yourself in the foot and giving up accuracy trying to convert something.

Yea, you wouldn't be happy with a Grendel barrel on a AK platform.

Sounds to me like an exercise in destruction of the person shouldering the weapon to me. Being a machinist and owning a short run production job shop, I can tell you with certainty that 'reaming' and 'boring' are 2 different things entirely.

You don't 'oversize' any bore with a reamer. A reamer only removes maybe a couple thousands at most, to achieve a final fit/chamber dimension.

Your understanding and the actual procedure are 2 entirely different things.

The 'proper' method would be to fit a quality barrel blank to the action and 'ream' that to dimension with the appropriate reamer, in my case, I use PT&G reamers.

I guess to avoid confrontation with those that hold 'assault' type rifles dear (I don't, never have, never will, though I do own a Barrett 50, which is arguably, the most assaulting of assault rifles ever produced for general consumption...if you can afford one), I'll refrain from using that word and stick to what I'm familiar with and that is fine tuning rifles for sub moa/mil accuracy at distance and building custom sticks.

....and reading and chuckling over some of the inane comments put forth by posters that haven't a clue, but then, the Internet is a place where everyone is an expert and opinions are gospel and are to be taken at face value...

Carry on.

Barrels are relined, that's why they sell "liners". You are correct that I'm not a machinist, and I may use the wrong exact word...

No one really cares that you shot sub minute, or that you see others guns as inadequate. Also, no one is making you buy or own anything, so why does this bother you?
