Ammunition

I thought Michigan had/has some line drawn across it at some point in the lower peninsula where its shotgun only south of that line for deer. Rifles are allowed north of that line. Don't know if that's still the case.
Used to be roughly M-57, a couple years ago the law was revised to allow some limited rifle use south of "the line".

Agulia is very inaccurate. It's real fast and has a lot of impact energy but it better be close or it's no cigar..... lol

I use it for coon and possum elimination at short distance, like 10 feet. I prefer my 17 HMR but a pistol works better out the kitchen window.. I'm a Hodgdon fan myself, I know Bruce personally and it don't get me anywhere with powder anyway. Bruce is a big front stuffer fan. Shoots CVA's.

I pretty much use all powder. I'm pretty **** and use the chronograph to tell the tale. I usually try to pick the load with best standard deviation and extreme spread.

Other than rimfire, I always use the Erik Streckler method of determining the most accurate downrange trajectory. IOW, proper case prep, then proper primer seating depth, then jump to a particular rifle's sweet spot (with light loads, then increasing the propellant charge until groups are the tightest, usually loading beyond SAMMI specs, all while shooting over a chrono, in my case a Magnetospeed.

Nice! BetaMaster Chrony for me ... had it probably 20yrs now. I could use some new screens as mine are yellowed and beat up.

My preferences are either a Magnetospeed or a Euhler. The Euhler is more accurate but the Magnetospeed sets up faster. One of my shooting buds has a doppler radar setup that works fantastic. We use downrange closed circuit TV for target viewing too. Saves walking 200-300 yards each time to look at targets, but we back up with a spotter on a tripod too.

Beta-masters with their sky screens are too touchy. I have one on the shelf and never use it.

We lived below M57 (I was just a kid back then so don't remember the 'laws') so maybe that's why. I bet you can use rifle in UP.

When I was out and about last weekend, every sporting goods store (Dicks, Gander Mountain, Rural King, and 2 local gun stores) all had .22 in stock. They were all about $5-$6 per 50 box of various brands, and Dicks and Gander Mountain both had the bulk box of 325 Federals for $20. Every store had plenty of each.

I think, at least in this area, the only place that it is difficult to find .22 ammo is at Wal-Mart; however, the price seems to have settled at much higher than what many of us remember from just a few years ago.

Good luck and take care.

Was at the Great Smokey Mountain Knife Works in Pigeon Forge/Sevierville TN a few weekends ago. They now have Grate Smokey Mountain Guns & Ammo inside it too! While I was checking out their reloading components (only other place that had components was Bass Pro Shop out on I40), they announced they had a sale going on on .22's. I turned and saw a bunch of .22 behind me but they were not the price I had heard over the speaker. So I asked at the counter and they said "oh, it's at the end of the counter" so I walked down the really long counter and to my surprise they had the most boxes of Federal Automatch I've seen in 5+ years. $19.99 a box. I have a pistol that I use for NRA Action Pistol that loves Automatch (I save the more expensive stuff for rimfire benchrest).

Also stopped in Buds Gun Shop there too and was impressed with their selection. Place is BIG. They had a Colt Gatling gun on display.

When I was younger and living in Michigan the rifle line was Clare, IIRC. Not sure where M57 is though I grew up near M60 in southern lower Michigan.

Apparently the law is still in effect and the southern shotgun zone is still there, although it appears around 2014 they allowed some rifle cartridges in that zone. Here's a link to a story about it on mlive.com....
