I also have a Lee but it's not a tumble lube ... it has a lube grove and I size it in a Lyman 4500 with heater. One day I'm going to spring for a Star.

I'm trying to cast on the cheap, so a simple lee sizer and tumble lube bullets are easier for me.

Has anyone tried any subsonic .22 lr? Was it quiet and how did it work in an autoloader rifle?

TBS
I have not, but I thought about it for my Old mossberg bolt action target rifle. It was a heavy 24" barrel, and is fairly quite as it is, was wondering what subonics would sound like out of it.

On a side note, friend brought his girl friends Raven Arms Mp25 over because she was having failure to feed issues. I took it down, cleaned, oiled, and fixed bent mag lips. We shot 12 rounds (6 each) at Tide jug full of water, 25 yards away. One of the rounds never made it though the back side, ~50 gr FMJ. So, moral of the story, not sure the use of slow, light projectiles.

Look up ballistic tables. A lot of standard loads are subsonic depending on barrel lenght. Most stuff is sub sonic in my wife's pistol but without a can it's still loud.

Would it wake up neighbors at night?

No, but my neighbors are atleast 200 ft away. (the .22). The .25 ACP is pretty dam loud, probably equal to a 9mm carbine (that range where I wear ear pro, but many dont).

Wouldn't subsonic .22LR be the same as .22 Shorts?

I am not answering. I don't want to be an accomplice

I have both Aquila Colibri and Super Colibri rounds. Both are quiet in rifles and so so in pistols. Neither will operate a 10-22. You have to operate the bolt manually to eject and load each round. They are about like an air rifle. No one inside a house, even the same house would ever hear it. As you know the longer the barrel the quieter any round is, and bolt, lever and pump rifles are quieter than semi-auto's because the breech stays closed until you open it. As said above, in long barrels subsonic rounds are pretty quiet.

yes, a .22 short in a long barrel rifle, especially a bolt, lever or pump rifle is pretty darn quiet . A pistol or revolver no.. not so much.

And a CB cap is is about like a bb gun.

So, to give a better point of reference, I can shoot the .22LR, "Remington Golden Bullets" from a 24" heavy barrel (not really a full Bull barrel, but profiled as thick as a M91 Mosin) while my youngest daughter naps inside on the other end of a double wide trailer, while I shoot off the porch.
