Amazon?

I don't know if this has been mentioned here or considered in the discussion about whether Prime is worth it. We have Prime but also have the Chase-Amazon Prime credit card - when you use the card for purchases you get 5% off. I don't know if you can only get that card if you are a Prime member or not, but if so, and you buy a lot on Amazon, that can effectively reduce the cost of Prime membership. We buy enough to offset the cost of the membership - so for us, with the 5%, the free delivery (even if it is not always within 2 days), and the Prime video, it is a no brainer.
I do similar with my Sam's club membership. I don't have the credit card but upgraded to the premium membership.

I paid for this Yeats membership with the points as well as around $75 off one of our trips.

I will give it a few months of no prime membership to see if the Prime is not worth it. If I do go back to Prime I will consider the Amazon Prime credit card.
I use the prime card on amazon as it gives another 5% off which I take as store credit. Prime also offers video streaming which I use since I cut the cable cord. And now Prime is offering gaming, which hits me right in the gen X so I'll check that out as well.

I'll have to check out my Prime card... I had forgotten about the rewards. The biggest reason I cancelled is because I don't do automatic payments... they're a PITA when I don't use the card for a couple of months. I cancelled my Sirius for the same reason, paid a year up front, when that ran out they just started taking money out without telling me and I almost got hit with late fees on my Amex.

MANY MANY things are a PITA when it comes to "auto pay" or "auto renew". I don't even sign up for magazines anymore ! Too many have the auto renew clause and NEVER do I signup with a credit card - EVER. Have a couple utilities on auto-pay but otherwise... NO NO NO. :)

I had Sirius/XM for a few years but always paid one year at a time and by check. The annual renewal was awful even then. Every year they would try to double the fee to around $200. I refused to pay more than $100/year and they would eventually relent. Canceling was an even worse experience. Thankfully they didn’t have my credit card number. Five years later they are still trying to get me back. Nope.

This is one of my BIG problems with this place. Regardless of who created and posted the listing, somebody needs to proofread for accuracy.

I'm pretty sure a 9K MiniSplit is not battery powered.

If they miss on something this basic, what else did they miss on?

That's exactly what we do.

Right now we can sell everything which gets cut. It may not be at a price we want to get, yet it all adds up. The forests are different here than out west; it's mostly second growth and much of the ground has been cut through several times in the last 100 years. Yet it keeps coming back. Plus, as I mentioned above, mills have expanded recently and are working to use the smaller wood which traditionally fell out of the stand due to competition.
Nice to hear. We don’t have too many markets anymore for trees that are sub-sawlog size. This used to go for pulpwood, now a little bit for wood pellets and biomass. But wood pellets and biomass don’t make up for the huge amount that used to go to the pulp mills.

All the timber being cut on the West Coast is 2nd, 3rd, and 4th growth. Most mills won't even take a log bigger than 22" DBH, or charge a 25% penalty for big logs. They even run peelers down to 3" to maximize veneer yield. The difference is that Douglas fir grows straight, is structurally as strong as oak, and as easy to work as any soft wood. Mostly they run 2x4 and 2x6 studs, and engineered wood products. The sawdust is going to fuel pellets and presto logs. With petroleum prices on their way to double, burning wood is likely to make a comeback.

The last year has dumped a huge amount of money into the timber economy. Lumber prices have run 3x the historic norm, so anybody with a sawmill has been running 24/7. It's nice to see everyone rolling in dough for once, from the loggers in the woods to teamsters loading hundreds of lumber cars every week. Even the small rail company that serves our area bought a bunch of shiny new engines.
I love to hear this. I’m in ponderosa pine country and we don’t have much market for trees less than 9”. Pine isn’t used for veneer. Some wood pellets and biomass, but not like we used to send to the paper mills.
