Undoubtedly, everyone knows I was probably the biggest complainer about the slow speed of the new forum./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif In fact, I've probably been a real pain in the butt for Muhammad. Well, I still don't know why TractorByNet would have been slower than most other sites (actually wasn't the speed of the connection, but the long pauses in transmissions), and of course, I don't know nearly enough about computers anyway./w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif However, I got in touch with the right technical support folks at my ISP (the first 2 or 3 times, the ones I talked to just blamed the phone company), and they had me make a couple of minor changes to some settings, but they also told me about a web site I'd never heard of to update the "firmware" for my IBM's LT Win Modem, and I did that! And glory be! This darned thing works right, finally!/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif They also told me what to type, enter, etc. to do a "trace" on the routing and said TractorByNet might have a problem there, and I sent that to Muhammad to check out (apparently nothing).

Sorry to have been so much trouble, Muhammad. Just my ignorance, I guess./w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

So it is running without those hangups that you were describing now? If so, good news...

Yep, today it pops from screen to screen in just a couple of seconds or less with no hang ups. And I'll bet that is good news to you; you might find time to do something else now./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif And it surely was good news to me, too./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif And I got signed up to be notified if they have any future updates to this "firmware". Apparently there had been several updates, and I never knew about them. And another odd thing (to me at least) is that their instructions said the update might not work for some people and might actually make their connections slower. Well, it did. Instead of being connected at 26400, I'm now connected at 24000, but it works A LOT FASTER! Reckon if I slow the RPMs down on my Kubota, it'll run faster?/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Makes no sense to me.

Bird,

Excellent, as for why your connection is faster at 24k, that is probably because 24k with the current updates you mentioned is faster than 26.4k with the older, um, updates. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I expect that now, since your connection is fast, you can get back to out-posting Mark again. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif He's leading you 320-271 after some wild posting string last night around midnight!!

You guys are getting way too close to me for post totals on this here new forum... I better start posting some more!

Muhammad, surely you don't think I could talk as much as Mark; I'm not even drinking Amsoil./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Besides that, he stays up too late at night for me./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Hi Bird,

VERY glad to hear you have discovered the key to improved speed on your connection, specially here on TBN. I know how agonizing it is, one, to have horrible speed, and two, not to be able to figure out why. It is often almost impossible to "diagnose" a problem of this type, on an unknown computer across distance. At any rate, I hope your surfing remains speedy, and lot's of fun! Many thanks for your great contributions to this forum.

Yeah, I noticed that... about posting late, and the Amsoil. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif But believe it or not, you were ahead on the old forum.

Thanks, Bob. I regularly download updates from IBM and Windows, but I'd never heard of "firmware" or updates to an LT Win Modem. And there must have been a dozen of them since I bought this IBM. If anyone has an LT Win Modem, you might want to look at http://808hi.com/56k/ltwin7.htm

Well before he gets in from playing on his Kubota /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif and posts it himself, I might as well say, he'll bring up the 'number of words' defense, of course. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
