2010 MF GC2400 Owner, 2012 MF1532 User
2021 GC1725M TLB.
220 hrs on it.
guy hooks up the 2000 rpm mid mount mower. him and 2 others tug on COLLAR (important...I warned them about this) to make sure pto seated.
never tug on the collar.
eng at 2500 rpm the 2000 rpm mid pto turned on and almost instantly went thru both the filter boss and cracked (see edit 3) the front of transaxle.
its under the auspices of dealer and insurance company now.

NEVER tug on the fking collar to check pto seat.
tug the collar you loosen your lock.
oh well, not my tractor. I put my MMM deck on in 5 minutes and started mowing some 4ft high stuff he had. he loans me backhoe (until now...since its dead) and gives me fruit/vegatables so it evens out.
once dealer/insurance comp figure **** out I'll lift rear with the 1532 and pull mmm deck out with my gc2400, will then use 1532 to push onto trailer and haul to dealer.
but ain't no way anyone is starting it.

edit: thought about retailrems filter repair kit but....nope....
edit 2: changed from 120 hrs to 220 (typo) hours. personally done all its service since the first 50hr service.

edit 3 : the front case is NOT cracked. was fluid toss I saw. right now ins company and dealer bickering over a 900$ repair. whatever.

Wow, expensive lesson, but seems common sense to me not to pull on the thing you need to pull on the disconnect the shaft.

yeah prob is when you pull with fingers on collar you can easily get false positive.
one side of collar yanked, other side free, even when not in detent it can feel like it is due to offset in shaft balls. place your hands back beyond collar...better (and true) feeling.
is somewhat hard on mid mount shaft as you are pretty much (with the mower) working one handed. but it can be done. this time of year I do it weekly.

I’ve only screwed up putting a pto shaft on once (knock on wood). Somehow the little balls in the PTO connector weren’t seated in the indents on the spline. It was on a 7’ rotary mower.

When the shaft came off it was a LONG minute (or two, felt like an hour) before the mower spun down and the shaft stopped flailing.

I pull on the PTO shaft (not a collar that releases it) every time after connecting them to see they’re seated on the spline.

yeah thats the key, remove hands from collar pull the shaft with 2 hands.
sadly with a mid mount mower 2k rpm shaft (on the massey GC series) its way to easy to just leave your hands where they were for the pto mount.
can be easy to get into a habit then, bad habit.
